Ashleigh Murray Had $12 In Her Bank Account Before Booking 'Riverdale'

Ashleigh Murray Had $12 In Her Bank Account Before Booking 'Riverdale'

Ashleigh Murray is opening up about her days as a struggling actress.

The Riverdale talent recently revealed that she was completely broke before booking her role as Josie on the show.

“I was $4,700 behind in rent. I lived in New York City, so it was a lot of money. And I was just about to take a break from acting for about six months, until I could get myself back on my feet financially, and then hit the ground running,” Ashleigh told Collider.com. “This was my last audition. So, I went on the audition, and the next day, I was on my way home from the grocery store with $12 in my bank account. I had to call my mom and ask her for an extra $5 because the last of it went to food at Whole Foods, just so that I could get home.”

Ashleigh also said, “This was my first big audition for pilot season, and I was so broke. I didn’t have money to do my laundry, so I was washing my clothes in my bathroom sink. And then, I ran up the street and begged the guy at the laundry mat that I go to, all the time, to please let me dry my clothes there because I had a big audition the next morning. So, he let me dry my clothes for free. I stayed up all night, printing out resumes and headshots.”

KJ Apa Sports Bandaged Hand While Filming 'Riverdale's Season Finale

KJ Apa Sports Bandaged Hand While Filming 'Riverdale's Season Finale

It looks like KJ Apa might’ve gotten hurt on the set of Riverdale…or did he?

While arriving on set with co-stars Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Ashleigh Murray, Hayley Law and Asha Bromfield, the actor who plays Archie Andrews was sporting a hefty bandage on his hand.

But maybe it’s not for KJ, but just for Archie instead…which causes us to wonder how he’ll get hurt in the future episodes.

The cast are wrapping up production soon on the first season of the show and star Casey Cott, who plays Kevin, shot his final scenes this week.

“Annnnnnd that’s a Season One wrap on Kevin!” he shared on Instagram. “What a joyful journey it has been. Completely filled with gratitude for everyone involved with Riverdale! NYC here I come!!!”

VIDEO: Josie & The Pussycats Debut All-New Original Song on 'Riverdale' - Watch Now!

Ashleigh Murray is just killing it on Riverdale as lead singer Josie McCoy!

In this brand new video from this week’s episode, Ashleigh leads Josie and the Pussycats in an all-new ORIGINAL song for the show called “All For Me”.

In the episode, Archie (KJ Apa) visits one of the Pussycats’ rehearsals and helps the band finish a lyric for the song, which they perform at the Taste of Riverdale event.

EP Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says of the song, “So far in the series, we’ve seen the Pussycats perform two covers, but in this episode, we see them doing an original song, ‘All For Me,’ at an event Josie’s mom, Mayor McCoy, is hosting for Riverdale.”

“A bit less pop than what we might normally associate with the Pussycats, but a really great showcase for their voices and talents — with more original songs to come,” he adds.

We can’t wait for the next episode of Riverdale!

To hold us over, we’ve got a clip from the show’s second episode where Ashleigh Murray takes to the stage for one of Josie and the Pussycats‘ first performances!

The revival of the girl group from the classic Archie comics performed a cover of Inner Circle‘s “Candy Girl (Sugar Sugar),” which was inspired by the original show’s 1969 hit “Sugar, Sugar.”

“As if stepping into the shoes of a fiery icon like Josie wasn’t enough, I was gifted the opportunity to reimagine and rock out on the classic ‘Sugar, Sugar.’ And boy, was it sweet,” Ashleigh said of the performance.

The episode featuring the performance is set to air on February 2 at 9 PM on the CW.

Ashleigh Murray & Rachel Crow Take Their New Movie To Sundance

Ashleigh Murray & Rachel Crow Take Their New Movie To Sundance

Ashleigh Murray and Rachel Crow gather up for a ‘family’ pic at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival earlier this week.

The two on-screen sisters premiered their new film, Deidra & Laney Rob A Train, during the annual festival in between gifting lounge and portrait studio stops.

“The thing that’s really nice about this film is particularly the diversity of this cast,” Ashleigh shared in a recent interview. “This, like Riverdale, is not diverse for diversity sake, it’s just a picture of life and the circumstances that happens to these people- it has nothing to do with their background, it just happens.”

She adds, “It’s so bizarre, and you get to see the underdog come out on top, and it’s just wonderful. There’s a great line where the antagonist tells Deidra that he ‘doesn’t need proof, all he needs to do is make a phone call.’ I think that speaks so many volumes for what is going on in the world, and I think it will give people some hope and enlightenment that it doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from, or if you look like your parents or not, you can still succeed even in the worst of conditions.”

Josie Doesn't Have Any Time for Archie in 'Riverdale'; Stars Dish on Music of the Show

Josie Doesn't Have Any Time for Archie in 'Riverdale'; Stars Dish on Music of the Show

Riverdale will be on our TV screens in less than a week and JJJ is really excited!

We’re even more excited about Josie and the Pussycats being on the show, being led by the fab Ashleigh Murray.

Ashleigh and co-star KJ Apa recently chatted about the role music plays in the series and what we can expect.

“A lot of songs are about what he’s experiencing, either with Grundy or the battle between Betty and Veronica,” KJ shared with press in a recent set visit. “You hear it in the lyrics, what it’s about. He writes these songs, each song has a different story and whatever episode it’s in, it plays in a moment where it can relate to what’s happening in the scene.”

He added about Archie’s time with Josie: “Archie really admires the Pussycats and Josie and her musical talent because he’s an aspiring musician and he wants to get better as well…[and] he tries to hang out with them [but] she doesn’t want a part of it.”

Sabrina the Teenage Witch May Pop Up On The CW's 'Riverdale'

Did you know that Sabrina the Teenage Witch originated from Archie Comics?!

That’s right, and she may be showing up on the new CW show Riverdale.

“Some people don’t even know that Sabrina is in the Archie family,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW. “There is absolutely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale or one town over in Greendale. Certainly, the priority is launching Riverdale and making sure that show is as good as it can be and as embraced as we want it to be.”

He added, “I’ll just tease that Sabrina has potential with a capital P.”

Riverdale premieres on Thursday, January 26 on The CW.
