Astro Talks Red Band Society & Cystic Fibrosis: 'Dash Lives It Up'

Astro Talks Red Band Society & Cystic Fibrosis: 'Dash Lives It Up'

Astro chills out at the bottom of some stairs in his new feature for the January 2015 issue of NKD mag.

The 18-year-old actor/rapper opened up to the glossy about music, acting and more. Check it:

On how he got attached to Red Band Society: “Some of the scripts [sent to me] are just great, to the point where it’s like, ‘I wanna be a part of it. I have to be a part of it.’ Red Band was one of those scripts. It was amazing, it was playful. It was selling the story of the teenager from the teenager’s perspective. It wasn’t, like, old man from the middle of nowhere trying to tell our story like a lot of TV shows do.”

On Dash and cystic fibrosis: “[Dash is] one of the wildest kids in the hospital, in the sense that he enjoys every moment of his life I’m very ambitious and I like to have fun all the time, but I think he [Dash] also tells the tale of a kid with cystic fibrosis. I met some kids with cystic fibrosis and … as much as they were going through, they weren’t sad at all. They were enjoying every moment of their lives, because they knew tomorrow wasn’t promised. I think he [Dash] lives it up for that reason because he knows he could die at any given moment.”

On his music plans: “We gotta grind to get to that point first. I’m not trying to put out an official album yet. This is more like a proper introduction to me. This is introducing the people, this is who ASTRO is.”

Is 'Red Band Society' Coming Back? EP Rina Mimoun Chimes In!

Is 'Red Band Society' Coming Back? EP Rina Mimoun Chimes In!

Astro is all smiles while leaving the SiriusXM studios after an interview on Tuesday morning (December 2) in New York City.

The 18-year-old actor/rapper’s show Red Band Society is in danger of being cancelled completely following Fox’s decision to halt production after only 13 episodes.

Executive producer Rina Mimoun caught up with TVGuide about the chances that tomorrow night’s mid-season finale could be the end.

“If [this episode] is the end, it will definitely leave you hanging!” Rina said. “I have always believed the show would work best in shorter cycles. Keeping the kids in the hospital for too long begins to stretch credibility. Creatively, this felt like the best decision. But I’m hopeful the final three episodes of our first season will air in the new year. As far as a second season, I know there are more stories to tell at Ocean Park Hospital and with Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer) at the helm, I feel like anything is possible!”

She added about what fans will miss, “Not only because he is such a fan favorite, but because Astro brings such humor and honesty to the role. We are giving him more to play in these final three episodes [which] we’re excited about.”

'Red Band Society' Second Season Unlikely, Production Ending After Episode 13

'Red Band Society' Second Season Unlikely, Production Ending After Episode 13

We’re super upset about this news – Fox will not be ordering more episodes of Red Band Society after production on episode 13 is completed next month.

The hospital dramedy, which stars a great group of young talent including Astro, Ciara Bravo, Griffin Gluck, Zoe Levin, Charlie Rowe, Nolan Sotillo, will air one more episode next week before going off the air. The final three episodes will be scheduled at a later date.

According to TV Line, a second season of the show is unlikely. It opened to low ratings back in September despite positive reviews from both critics and fans.
