It’s Finally Here!

Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, and Gaelan Connell, Bandslam follows yltra-popular Charlotte (Michalka) who is determined to face-off against her ex at the country’s biggest music competition. She just needs a band.

Newcomer Will (Connell) knows more about musicians than anyone. He just needs a friend. And, rebel guitar player Sa5m (Hudgens) has a wicked voice but needs someone to believe in her. Together, this unlikely trio will take on Bandslam in a way no one thought possible.

The US DVD features audio commentary with director Todd Graff and the cast plus deleted scenes, two music videos and “Bandslam: Making the Band” featurette.

Bandslam stars Vanessa Hudgens, Gaelan Connell and Alyson Michalka have taught us that music education is very important but so are books.

The trio recently sat down with Scholastic to chat about their favorite reads.

Aly, 20, shared that her fave book is “The Bad Beginning,” the first book in the 10-book series, “A Series of Unfortunate Events” by Lemony Snicket while Gaelan, also 20, prefers “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle.

Bandslam star Gaelan Connell gets silly with JustJaredJr.com‘s famous coasters recently in New York City.

JJJ had the chance to chat with the self-proclaimed dork and leading man of Bandslam. Check out what the 20-year-old actor had to say:

JJJ: Have you been recognized on the streets yet?
Gaelan Connell: I have not. One of the coolest things that happened was we left this screening in New York – I went to see [costar] Ryan Donahue – and this girl came up to the two of us afterward and was, like, “Nobody knows it yet, but you guys are so cool!” And I was, like, aww! That’s awesome. “But nobody knows it yet!”

JJJ: Did you play Rock Band and Guitar Hero before you got Bandslam?
GC: Yes, but this definitely helped because they had all these free things – merchandiiiise! Lisa [Kudrow] and I actually played a lot ’cause there’s a scene in the movie where we’re supposed to play but you totally put a picture of us playing it on your blog! Hopefully it’ll be in the deleted scenes.

I think it was because we were too good at it. Lisa and I practiced and we got to Expert. And she’s really competitive – she’d block the screen with the guitar and stuff – like, Mom! And then when we had to shoot it, the TV was off and all the crew guys were getting pissed, like, “Get it right!” and we were, like, “No, we’ve done it!” and nobody believes us. I’m adamant – Lisa and I were really good at it.

In the exclusive behind-the-scenes clips, stars Vanessa and Aly Michalka give you a lesson in all things Bandslam.

Director Todd Graff shared about the film, “It’s about his [Will Burton, played by Gaelan] growing up, his rite of passage. During the course of the movie, by managing this band, he learns how to connect.”

Vanessa added in, “This was actually a really cool movie about music that has a lot of heart.”

78violet sisters Alyson and AJ Michalka put on their best black as they arrive at the premiere of Bandslam held at Mann’s Village Theatre on Thursday evening (August 6) in Westwood, Calif.

Aly, 20, plays the lead female in the flick, Charlotte Barnes. She tweeted earlier last night, saying, “Heading to the premiere in 10…such a wonderful night to celebrate. Thank you for all your support! Xo aly.”

In the rockin’ movie, a new kid in town (Gaelan Connell) who assembles a fledgling rock band to compete against the best in the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands. Bandslam hits theaters NEXT Friday, August 14th.
