Don't Count 'Riverdale's Archie & Veronica Out Just Yet, Star Camila Mendes Says

Don't Count 'Riverdale's Archie & Veronica Out Just Yet, Star Camila Mendes Says

We’ve made a case for Archie and Betty on Riverdale, but what about Archie and Veronica?

Both stars KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart are definitely for Betty and Archie being endgame, but Camila Mendes says it should be Veronica for him.

“I do think Veronica’s really good for Archie,” she shared. “I know I’m biased!”

Camila also shared about just why Veronica is the better choice, over Betty.

“There are so many sweet scenes. I feel like they’re exploring this darker side of Archie, and he’s dealing with the darkness of Riverdale,” she explains. “I think Veronica plays into that. She’s seen a darker world; she’s not from Riverdale. She’s seen some shit. She’s been through shit. If anyone can help him through whatever he’s going through, it’s her.”

She adds, “She’s kind of the strength in his life—or she’s stability. She can also recognize his…I think both of them are a little bit impulsive and a little bit unstable.”

TELL JJJ: Which pairing do you like better – Archie & Betty or Archie & Veronica?

Lili Reinhart is a Beronica shipper, and JJJ is loving her for it!

The Riverdale actress chatted about Betty and Veronica’s friendship that is definitely what fans are tuning in to see every week.

“I have a best friend in my life who I know is my soulmate. Betty and Veronica are two people who I think were always destined to be friends. Even though they’re so different from one another, these two people are meant to be in each other’s lives,” Lili shared about the duo’s relationship.

She adds, “B and V are a powerful, dynamic duo, and their friendship is 100 percent the heart of the show. And I love how at the end of every problem, they come back to each other.”

“They’re not enemies, and they’re not fighting over a guy,” she continued. “Maybe they did for a second, but that moment passed, and they got over it. This friendship is so much more important.”

Camila Mendes Goes After Slut Shamers on 'Riverdale' as Veronica Lodge

Camila Mendes Goes After Slut Shamers on 'Riverdale' as Veronica Lodge

We repeat, DO NOT MESS WITH VERONICA LODGE!

In the most recent episode of Riverdale, Camila Mendes serves up some mega fierceness as the new girl in town who was slut-shamed by the star football player — and she’s not happy about it. Heck, who would ever be happy about that?

The show tackles the subject with Veronica going after Chuck, Betty (Lili Reinhart) going undercover and Ethel (Shannon Purser) coming forward and sharing her exact same story as Veronica’s.

JJJ absolutely loved and gave Veronica a standing ovation when she cornered Chuck in the guys’ locker room and booed all the way through his refusal to delete the picture of Veronica with maple syrup over her, and booed even more when mostly all the football team were on his side! Like, what?!

And this playbook? BURN IT! There is no “badge of honor” rating girls by number or percentages OR even calling hooking up with someone a “badge” of anything!

Veronica also put Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) in her place and cautions Cheryl against calling any of them “sluts” ever again.

WHAT DID YOU THINK of last night’s Riverdale episode?

Veronica is on a mission and that mission is to take down football player Chuck on tonight’s Riverdale.

“She goes on a date with Chuck, who is Riverdale’s creme de la creme,” Camila Mendes explains in an inside look at the episode.

She adds, “It goes very well. They have a nice little moment, but then the next day he does something that humiliates her to the whole school.”

Not cool Chuck! Not cool! Veronica actually teams up with Ethel (Shannon Purser) and they work on exposing some of Riverdale High’s football players after rumors of a “shame book” begin to circulate.

Elsewhere in the episode, Betty (Lili Reinhart) decides to revive the school newspaper and asks for Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) help; and Archie (KJ Apa), after getting grounded by his dad, must figure out a way to make it to the Taste of Riverdale event.

Riverdale airs TONIGHT, February 9th @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.

KJ Apa Sports Bandaged Hand While Filming 'Riverdale's Season Finale

KJ Apa Sports Bandaged Hand While Filming 'Riverdale's Season Finale

It looks like KJ Apa might’ve gotten hurt on the set of Riverdale…or did he?

While arriving on set with co-stars Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Ashleigh Murray, Hayley Law and Asha Bromfield, the actor who plays Archie Andrews was sporting a hefty bandage on his hand.

But maybe it’s not for KJ, but just for Archie instead…which causes us to wonder how he’ll get hurt in the future episodes.

The cast are wrapping up production soon on the first season of the show and star Casey Cott, who plays Kevin, shot his final scenes this week.

“Annnnnnd that’s a Season One wrap on Kevin!” he shared on Instagram. “What a joyful journey it has been. Completely filled with gratitude for everyone involved with Riverdale! NYC here I come!!!”

'Riverdale' Star Camila Mendes Fires Back at Latina Stereotypes; Calls Veronica 'The Perfect Balance'

'Riverdale' Star Camila Mendes Fires Back at Latina Stereotypes; Calls Veronica 'The Perfect Balance'

We all have one more day until we see Camila Mendes light up the small screen on Riverdale as Veronica Lodge.

Speaking with Coveteur, Camila opened up about her character and how she’s leaving all other Latina stereotypical roles behind.

“It was frustrating because all of the roles I went out for I never really felt like I was right for,” she shares. “Especially being Latina, people want to make use of that.”

“So I would go out for shows like Blue Bloods and Shades of Blue, and all of these crime dramas where they are looking for these foster child Latinas, like ‘underprivileged and urban,’ as they would say.”

Camila continues, “I never really fit that stereotype, and I didn’t want to play a stereotype. I kept getting the note that I’m not ‘urban enough.’ So it’s like, okay, I’m not urban enough and I’m not white enough, what am I? Why are there no roles out there that fit me!”

Thankfully, Riverdale came along.

“Veronica came in and it was the perfect balance,” she says. “She was Latina! They wanted her to be ethnic, but that wasn’t the point of her character. She wasn’t a stereotype. She was just an American Latina. And that is how I identify, I don’t need to play up anything.”

Camila adds, “I am this character. Everything just kinda fell into place with her. So finally I get the call from my agent on February 26th. She was like, ‘You got the role!’ I was just immediately relieved; in the end they didn’t even end up sending anyone else’s tapes. They never found another girl to compete against me, and they didn’t send any other tapes.”

Riverdale premieres TOMORROW, January 26th on The CW.
