Here's Why Perry Mattfield Was Cast as a Blind Woman Over An Actual Blind Woman For CW's 'In The Dark'

Here's Why Perry Mattfield Was Cast as a Blind Woman Over An Actual Blind Woman For CW's 'In The Dark'

Perry Mattfeld dolls up in a pretty dress for the In The Dark panel during the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour held at The Langham Huntington Hotel on Thursday (January 31) in Pasadena, Calif.

The 24-year-old actress was joined by co-stars Casey Deidrick, Keston John, Kathleen York, Morgan Krantz, Rich Sommer, Brooke Markham, Calle Walton and Thamela Mpumlwana at the panel, as well as EPs Corinne Kingsbury, and Jackie Cohn, and consultant Lorri Benson.

During the panel, Lorri and Corinne explained why both Perry and dog Levi were cast instead of an actual blind actress and guide dog for the series.

Lorri, who is blind and came to TCA with her new-ish guide dog Captain who led her through maze of chairs on stage set up for the cast and producers, a guide dog would mis-interpret multiple takes of a scene in a bad way.

“If I were to repeat what I just did, even three or four times, when I repeat it’s because he made an error,” she explained. “He would slowly break down because he did not know what he was doing wrong.”

As for Perry, the EPs revealed that she was cast as Murphy because she was the best actor for the role “in a really exiting way”.

The series did hire Calle, who is blind, in another role on the series as well as a blind writer.

If you remember, Perry actually played Franken-girl in Wizards of Waverly Place!

Casey Deidrick Says He Loved Every Bit Of Being On 'Teen Wolf's Final Season

Casey Deidrick Says He Loved Every Bit Of Being On 'Teen Wolf's Final Season

Casey Deidrick is living it up on Teen Wolf this season as a Hellhound, a role that he absolutely loves.

“It was my first role where I felt absolutely free,” he told Daman magazine about it. “I loved and enjoyed every second of it.”

Casey also adds that the best parts were the cast and crew: “From the crew being so welcoming and the cast being so fun to work with; I actually knew Shelley Hennig from the soap opera we used to be on and I was friends with Ryan Kelley through mutual friends. Our director, Russell Mulcahy, was really supportive and really encouraged me to go as far as I could playing a hellhound.”

However, there was one thing he didn’t love about it — having spiders crawl all over him during one particular scene.

“Walking around half naked was always something to look forward to everyday on set, especially outside near Malibu at night,” he adds sarcastically. “I was freezing my a** off, and I’m lying in this ditch in my underwear, covered in leaves and dirt.”

Casey continues, “I look down and there are spiders crawling all over me; it was fg amazing. But overall, the whole experience was memorable for me.”

Teen Wolf airs Sundays @ 8PM ET/PT on MTV.

Teen Wolf is getting even hotter with Casey Deidrick joining the final season.

The actor, who you might remember from Eye Candy (with Victoria Justice), has joined the show for the final episodes.

He’s set to play a Hellhound named Halwyn who spent some time at the Eichen House.

“While his motives remain unclear, he does have ties to the mysterious group of hunters threatening Scott (Tyler Posey), Lydia (Holland Roden) and Malia (Shelley Hennig),” Entertainment Weekly reveals.
