Fans Petition For Disneyland To Push Back Reopening Date Further Due To Rising Coronavirus Cases

Fans Petition For Disneyland To Push Back Reopening Date Further Due To Rising Coronavirus Cases

While a lot of Disney fans are excited about the possibility of Disneyland reopening, there are others that don’t feel the same.

Earlier this week, Disneyland announced it’s plans to reopen it’s parks, hotels and Downtown Disney district amid the pandemic, three months after closing it’s doors.

The Anaheim parks are planning to open back up on Disneyland’s 65 year anniversary, July 17th. While the plans have been submitted, they still await government approval.

“We Are Anonymous” started a petition on Change.org calling on Disney to not reopen so fast as “Covid-19 cases are rising and have not dropped,” and there “more cases now than when the parks closed on March 13th, 2020.”

“Health Officials have stated that the 2nd wave of Covid-19 will be worse. So reopening before the 2nd wave even hits us is irresponsible and greedy. I understand everyone is rejoicing for the reopening of the parks but not during a pandemic where people are DYING, now is not the time,” the petition reads.

“On March 27th, 2020 Disney Parks released a statement, ‘the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.’ The solution would be to reschedule Disneyland to reopen the parks at a later date when cases of Covid-19 drop and Health Officials state it is safer for everyone but to still practice social distancing.”

At the time of this post, the petition needed just over a thousand more signatures.

In case you missed it, Disney fans are also calling on Disneyland to refurbish one of it’s rides with a new theme!

It was just announced that the park will open to employees on Monday, June 1st and the general public on Friday, June 5th, THR reports.

The park has been closed since mid-March when theme parks across the country all shut their doors.

Parts of the CityWalk area of the resort opened up earlier this month on May 14th, and now more parts of the resort will be open.

“The health and safety of our guests and team members remains our top priority and we are taking specific measures that include screening our guests and team members, social distancing and requiring everyone to wear a face covering,” the Universal Orlando website reads. JK Rowling Announces Pandemic Donation on Battle of Hogwarts Anniversary

JK Rowling Announces Pandemic Donation on Battle of Hogwarts Anniversary

JK Rowling is making a big donation to those being affected by the pandemic.

The Harry Potter author announced a £1 million donation, split between two different organizations.

JK felt uncomfortable celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, which took place in the final Harry Potter movie, Deathly Hallows Part II.

“Today’s the 22nd anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, but I’m going to be honest and say that it feels inappropriate to talk about fictional deaths today. Too many people are losing loved ones in the real world,” she wrote on Twitter.

“So on this anniversary of a great wizarding victory, I’m thinking of the people who’re out there doing their jobs to protect us and our way of life. I have 3 key workers in my immediate family, and like all such relatives, I’m torn between pride and anxiety,” JK added.

“As ever in a crisis of this sort, the poorest and most vulnerable are hit hardest, so in honour of the Battle of Hogwarts, I’ll be making a donation of £1m, half of which will go to https://crisis.org.uk, who’re helping the homeless during the pandemic,” she continued. “and half of which will go to https://refuge.org.uk, because we know that domestic abuse has, sadly, increased hugely during the lockdown.”

Billie Eilish Is Not Doing This During Quarantine Like Other Celebs

Billie Eilish is using her quarantine time a little differently than other celebs.

The 18-year-old recently opened up about not wanting to do certain things like many other people are doing.

“I feel like everybody on the internet has been talking about like, they’ve been on FaceTime all day long with their friends,” she said on the Telekom Electronic Beats podcast, via MTV. “I kind of have this feeling of like, I love my friends, I can’t wait to see them, I do miss them a lot, but at the same time I’m like, I don’t know, I’m good. I haven’t had this time off since I was like 12, so yeah, it’s crazy.”

Billie will, however, be taking part in the Global Citizen One World at Home special this weekend. Find out more HERE!
