Elle Fanning strikes a stunning pose in her new cover shoot for Tatler‘s November issue, available via digital download and newsstands on October 3!
Here’s what the Neon Demon star had to say to the outlet:
On her and her sister Dakota Fanning acting: “Well, I saw my sister doing it and I was a huge ham growing up. We would constantly put on these scenes around the house. It wasn’t for anyone, only for ourselves. We would do lines, characters, it was very funny. It just felt right at home for us… We weren’t supposed to do this at all. My mom played tennis, my dad played baseball, my mom’s dad was a quarterback in the NFL. We were supposed to play tennis or something.”
On an industry beset with the pressure to appear perfect and how she surrounds herself with a sisterhood: “There is a stigma placed on women in any workplace. But especially in Hollywood. You must be super competitive and super jealous. And it’s something that people want to project, but it’s actually not the case.”
On what Princess Aurora represents [in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil] and the message she wants to tell women: “Aurora represents the youth of the generation who is accepting to all, no matter what, and she does it in her own soft way. I think it’s a nice message to tell women, it’s okay to be comfortable in your femininity. Kindness is not weakness – it’s quite the opposite.”

Dakota Fanning is defending her new movie, Sweetness in the Belly, after allegations of whitewashing in the film.
In the upcoming movie, the 25-year-old actress stars as a young woman who was abandoned in Africa and then raised Muslim.
“Just to clarify. In the new film I’m part of, Sweetness in the Belly, I do not play an Ethiopian woman. I play a British woman abandoned by her parents at seven years old in Africa and raised Muslim. My character, Lilly, journeys to Ethiopia and is caught up in the breakout of civil war. She is subsequently sent ‘home’ to England, a place she is from but has never known,” Dakota posted on her Instagram Story to clarify that she plays a white woman in the movie.
“Based on a book by Camilla Gibb, this film was partly made in Ethiopia, is directed by an Ethiopian man and features many Ethiopian women. It was a great privilege to be part of telling this story.”
Dakota added, “The film is about what home means to people who find themselves displaced and the families and communities that they choose and that choose them.”
Sweetness in the Belly is set to debut at the Toronto Film Festival this coming week.

Dakota Fanning keeps it cool in this shot from the new issue of PorterEdit.
The 25-year-old actress opened up in the issue about growing up as a child star and into adulthood.
“The difficult part about starting so young, which I’ve totally come to accept, is that when you grow up and become a woman, people think you’re younger,” Dakota shared with the glossy.
She continues, “The other day, my mom, my sister [Elle] and I were in Las Vegas for my sister’s 21st birthday and somebody said, ‘Are you Dakota Fanning? You’re that child?’ It is what it is.”
“It never really bothered me. But I can see how it could make you run in the opposite direction and grow up too quick and not make the best decisions because you’re trying to run away from people telling you that you’re still little.”
Dakota also shared how she’s using social media to show people her true self: “I’ve recently wanted to share a little bit more of who I am, because I was feeling frustrated by people thinking they knew who I was.”
“Instagram became a fun way of sharing. But it has to be authentic. I want to keep the things that I put on there real.”

The 25-year-old Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress opened up about her workout routine, giving back and why she doesn’t need to talk to her sister, Elle, every day. Check it:
On having a support system: “My sister, Elle, and I are really close. We always have been. We’re very different, but we’re very connected. We don’t talk every day, but we don’t have to. We just have that special bond. There’s no one I want to succeed more in this business than my sister, and I know she wants the same for me.”
On making a difference: “Giving back is very important to me. Volunteering has always been part of my life. I’ve learned that as much as it helps other people, it helps you too. Volunteering gives you perspective and an appreciation for your own circumstances. It makes the world better, and it makes you a better person.”
On her go-to workout: “I try to work out six days a week. I love to do Cardio Barre, a ballet-inspired cardio class. I’ve been taking it since I was in high school, and I’m obsessed. I also started doing AKT [a dance-based cardio and strength workout]. The first time I did it, I thought I was going to die! It was so tough in the best possible way.”
