Danielle Panabaker is nothing like her character Katie Lapp — at least at first.
The 23-year-old actress stars as Katie in the upcoming Hallmark Channel movie, The Shunning, and dished in a recent interview the reason she was drawn to the film.
Danielle shared, “I really related to the journey of this young woman sort of struggling to find herself and find her own voice. I think that’s something that a lot of young women — young people — can relate to, you know, being in your late teens or early twenties and trying to figure out who you want to be in this world. When I read the script I was drawn into it immediately.”
“It was really an emotional performance. I really wanted to make sure we hit all the moments this young woman was struggling with, as authentically and honestly as possible. And it was certainly difficult on such a limited time budget. We shot the whole thing in, like, three weeks, which is pretty incredible,” Danielle added.

The 23-year-old actress stars as Katie, a young Amish girl, who struggles with adhering to the firm rules of the township.
When she discovers her parents have long kept the secret that she was adopted and that her birth mother is trying to contact her, Katie brings great shame to her father by backing out of her upcoming marriage. Shunned by her community and family, Katie leaves the only home she has known to seek out her true identity in the outside world.
The Shunning, based on the first novel of The Heritage of Lancaster County Books by Beverly Lewis, premieres Saturday, April 16 @ 9PM ET/PT on Hallmark Channel.

Kay, 20, will be heading to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival later this month to screen her new film, Little Birds.
Little Birds is about two 15-year-old girls (Juno Temple, Panabaker) who test the limits of their friendship when one follows the other to Los Angeles.

Danielle Panabaker shows off her lovely locks as she premieres her new horror flick, The Crazies, at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening (February 23).
The 22-year-old actress, dolled up in a navy sequined dress, plays Becca Darling in the movie which is about the inhabitants of a small Iowa town suddenly plagued by insanity and then death after a mysterious toxin contaminates their water supply.
Danielle recently caught up with IESB and dished just why she loves making horror films. She shared, “My parents were really conservative and didn’t let me watch R-rated movies growing up, and mostly not even PG-13, so I wasn’t actually really exposed to the genre until more recently. Particularly with the experience of working on Friday the 13th, I feel like I have such respect for these filmmakers and their ability to make a really good horror film. And, the reason I’ve done so many recently is because they are the kinds of films that people are going to see and that are getting financed. I really love working and I feel like I’ve been fortunate enough just to work, so working in these films has been great.”
