This is amazing news for Degrassi fans like us!

The long-running teen drama has officially been picked up by Netflix as Degrassi: Next Class after being cancelled by TeenNick last week. There will be 20 new episodes that will air on Netflix in the U.S. and on Family Channel in Canada in 2016.

“Following an unprecedented and incredibly supportive 14-year relationship with Bell Media on Degrassi: The Next Generation, we are looking forward to reaching a fresh new audience with Degrassi: Next Class,” executive producer Linda Schuyler said in a statement (via TVGuide.com). “We are energized and excited to work with Family Channel as we tell stories for the new post-millennial teen cohort known as Generation Z, most of whom weren’t even born when Degrassi returned in 2001.”

And get this – the new series will bring back castmembers Amanda Arcuri, Reiya Downs, Ana Golja, Nikki Gould, Ricardo Hoyos, Ehren Kassam, Andre Kim, Lyle Lettau, Spencer Macpherson, Eric Osborne, Olivia Scriven, Sara Waisglass, and Richard Walters.

Don’t forget – TeenNick’s finale is set to air on Friday, July 31 @ 9/8c.

JJJ isn’t sure how to process this news — Degrassi is ending after fourteen seasons!

TeenNick announced this morning that the long-running show would make it’s final bow on Friday, July 31st.

“For an incredible 14 seasons, Degrassi has been a groundbreaking show tackling so many important topics that real teens face in their everyday lives,” said Keith Dawkins, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Nicktoons, TeenNick and Nick Jr. “In the final episodes on TeenNick and through the hour-long special and social activations, we hope to say goodbye in a way that is both fitting to the show and Degrassi’s passionate fan base.”

Executive Producer of Degrassi, Stephen Stohn, added, “Few producers are as blessed as we have been, working with so many talented and creative individuals at TeenNick for 14 seasons of Degrassi; including 385 episodes and over 100 pieces of original short-form web content. We thank all those at TeenNick who have worked so hard over the years to help us create a television series that changes with the times and continues to authentically connect and interact with the youth audience.”

The final 12 episodes will kick off with an hour-long special Monday, July 20th @9PM ET/PT, with episodes airing Monday-Friday before it’s end on July 31st. with an hour-long special, It Goes There: Degrassi’s Most Talked About Moments, where Degrassi cast members, creators and fans share the series’ most iconic moments.

In the final episodes, the senior class prepares for prom and graduation as the school year comes to an end. The new principal, Ms. Pill, introduces a strict new regime at Degrassi in response to the oomfchat scandal, and the unhappy students take out their frustrations on Zo�.

Meanwhile, Clare and Eli are on good terms and committed to raising their baby together. Frankie and Winston decide to put on the musical production, “Caption Who,” penned by Winston himself. Also, Zig and Maya grow closer than ever.

WHAT DO YOU THINK about Degrassi ending on TeenNick?

Nikki Yanofsky prints it up for the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards held at MuchMusic HQ on Sunday evening (June 15) in Toronto, Canada.

The 19-year-old singer was joined on the red carpet by the cast of Degrassi — Luke Bilyk, Aislinn Paul, Sarah Fisher, Melinda Shankar and Cristine Prosperi.

“‘Handed him a bottle of water filled with tequila’ #SING @edsheeran nicest guy. #mmvas,” Nikki captioned with a pic of her and Ed Sheeran backstage.

Speaking of Ed, apparently he wants to guest star on Degrassi!

“Only on the live lounge: Ed Sheeran says he is serious about appearing on an episode of @Degrassi in the future. He even did a Degrassi rap,” the Live Lounge tweeted out. Nice!

The ladies from Degrassi hit the red carpet in style at the CTV Upfront 2014 party held at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada on Thursday evening (June 5).

Sarah Fisher, Jessica Tyler, Cristine Prosperi and Melinda Shankar hit up the event after the show returned for it’s summer premiere earlier in the week on TeenNick.

So what’s happening this summer? Well, Clare is attempting to move on from her boy drama, choosing Drew over Eli; Maya doing her best to keep Zig safe, which is hard to do after she does a little snooping and finds a bag of drugs. Meanwhile, Miles’ BFF Winston finally gets a storyline of his own when he’s on the prowl for his first girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Maya (Olivia Scriven) reconnects with her old friend, Zig (Ricardo Hoyos), but Miles (Eric Osborne) doesn’t trust him.

Summer is over and the students of Degrassi are ready to make the most of the new school year. Drew (Luke Bilyk) dives right into his presidency in a big way, while his VP Clare (Aislinn Paul) quickly sets her sights on getting into Columbia in order to be closer to Eli (Munro Chambers).

Maya (Olivia Scriven), Tristan (Lyle Lettau), Miles (Eric Osborne), and Zoe (Ana Golja) find that what happened in Paris…didn’t necessarily stay in Paris. Meanwhile, a piece of Alli’s (Melinda Shankar) Parisian summer follows her home, but will her friends be supportive?

In the premiere episode “This is How We Do It,” Drew is determined to give Degrassi its best year ever, but after everything he’s been through, is he up to the task? Meanwhile, Alli plans a romantic secret rendezvous, but Jenna (Jessica Tyler) and Clare think she’s trying to put the moves on Dallas (Demetrius Joyette).
