Demi Lovato belts out her song “Confident” while helping open the 2016 Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday (July 25) in Philadelphia, Penn.
The 23-year-old singer performed for the crowd after giving a speech about living with mental illness.
“Like millions of Americans, I am living with mental illness. But I am lucky. I had the resources and support to get treatment at a top facility,” Demi said. “Unfortunately, too many Americans from all walks of life don’t get help, whether they fear the stigma or cannot afford treatment.”
Demi told the crowd that she is proof that people can live happy lives with mental illness and urged politicians to give more people access to treatment.
“This is not about politics, its simply the right thing to do,” she said.

Joe Jonas is gushing about his brother Nick and Demi Lovato in this brand new interview.
The 26-year-old DNCE singer spoke with Billboard about the pair, who are currently on tour together.
“You’d think they’re siblings, sometimes more than Nick and I. They pick on each other, they play games… Demi’s a great listener, and she keeps Nick smiling — she’ll always make a serious situation laughable. So, they’ve found great support with one another and they lean on each other creatively. Nick’s evolved so much as a writer. Demi’s voice is stronger than ever. It’s difficult to take a backseat and say, ‘Let’s work together and figure out something great.’ I commend them both for that,” Joe, 26, told Billboard.
Joe also commented on being the subject of “Gonna Get Caught” from when they were dating.
“I was oblivious to that until I was asked to step out of a songwriting session or two, then it started to be a little clearer what this was about. [Laughs] We’ve seen each other go through tough times, good times, in and out of relationships. It’s funny to think back on that now. It feels like we were children, although I guess we were. She is like a sister to both of us, and it’s great to know we all have that support. It’s like, it doesn’t matter what comes our way. We’re going to be able to make it through,” Joe said. On her struggles, he added, “She’s the best version of herself I’ve ever known. She’s healthy and that’s obviously something a lot of the world knows now, but she’s gotten over [the really hard part].”
Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato take the stage during their Future Now Tour on Saturday night (July 23) in Toronto, Canada.
Earlier that week, Demi and Nick opened up to Billboard magazine about their close-knit friendship of over 10 years. In the interview, Demi shared that she has to approve of all of Nick‘s girlfriends before they get serious. One ex-girlfriend that didn’t get Demi‘s seal of approval was Olivia Culpo.
“He’s a guy in his 20s and he’s famous and he likes to have a lot of fun,” Demi shared. “Listen, even when he was in a relationship, I was like, ‘Get out of that.”
Nick and Olivia dated for about two years before breaking up in June 2015. After breaking up with Olivia, Nick shared within the interview that Demi was the third person he called to tell (after his dad and brother Joe Jonas).
“I go, ‘Honestly, I didn’t like her anyway.’” Demi said. “It’s not because she’s mean or anything, but he has such a great sense of humor and I want him to be with someone that makes him laugh. I can tell if something’s up because he’ll close off.”

Demi Lovato glams up the September 2016 cover of Elle Canada.
The 23-year-old musician opened up to the glossy about her fans, her charity and more. Check it:
On relating to her fans: “Honesty gives me a way to relate to my fans. If I’m not honest, then I can’t open up to them and they can’t relate to me at all. I try to inspire people by saying ‘If I can go through that, you can go through that.’”
On her charity work being overshadowed: “It’s frustrating to see my charity work overshadowed by silly things, but you have to roll with the punches…The accolades that matter most to me are the ones that recognize the work I’ve done charity-wise. That’s really what matters most. No number one single can ever top that.”
On the one thing she absolutely believes in: “Aliens! I’ve seen a UFO. A couple of years ago, I was walking outside and I looked up and it was almost like there was a worm in the sky. It was changing shapes and moving all over the place.”

Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato are “friends with (career) benefits” on the latest cover of Billboard magazine.
The longtime friends, tourmates, and business partners opened up to the glossy about all kinds of topics. Check it:
Nick on Demi leaving the 2010 Jonas tour after punching a dancer: “That we were going to get sued. I mean, it was bad. On top of losing a friend, we have seven dates left, it’s a big production, people are expecting to see Demi and that’s not going to happen. I was angry…”
Demi on leaving Disney: “We joked around that it was Disney High, except we all were shooting shows and really overworking. I joke that I sometimes have PTSD after leaving the channel, because if my schedule starts to get too busy, I rebel and I get bitchy…”
Nick on being advocates for the LGBTQ community: “Think about my past and where my love for performance comes from — musical theater. And playing this gay fighter in a very macho world for Kingdom, it requires me digging really deep, and I do it with respect and honor.”
