Jon M. Chu Steps Down As Director of 'Willow' Pilot Due To Pandemic Delays

Jon M. Chu Steps Down As Director of 'Willow' Pilot Due To Pandemic Delays

Jon M. Chu has revealed he will no longer direct the pilot of the upcoming Willow series.

The new Disney+ show is set as a sequel and picks up years after the events of the 80s film.

In a note shared to social media, the director opened up about his decision to step down as director due to scheduling delays amid the ongoing pandemic and lockdown rules.

“I’m heartbroken to let you all know that I unfortunately have to let you all know that I unfortunately have to step away from directing Willow,” he said. “With the production schedule moving due to continued lockdowns in the UK, and with a new baby coming this summer (surprise!), the timing is just not going to work for me and my family.”

“As you may know, Willow has been one of my favorite movies since I was a child, so I’m devastated that I won’t be able to work with some of my heroes old and new like Kathy, Ron, Jon, Wendy, Michelle, and the amazing cast and crew they’ve put together,” Jon continued. “Like a kid seeing Willow for the time in the ’80s, I will look forward to watching this magical world unfold as a very enthusiastic fan. And boy do they have an adventure in store for you! I can’t wait for you all to experience it soon.”

Jon was attached to direct the pilot, and serve as an executive producer.

Disney+ Announces They're Raising The Subscription Fee In 2021

Disney+ subscribers will soon have to start paying more.

The streaming service announced on Thursday (December 10) that the monthly and annual fees will be going up, just a little bit.

It currently costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 per year to be subscribed to the platform, but starting in March 2021, the monthly cost will go up to $7.99, and the yearly price will go to $79.99. The price for Disney+ in Europe will also go up €2 a month to €8.

This change in subscription fees is quite likely due to the enormous amount of new content they just announced on 2020 The Walt Disney Company Investor Day. Check out a recap on Just Jared!

Disney revealed many new Marvel and Star Wars series coming to Disney+, as well as a lot of movies being added to each franchise, among many other announcements, which includes some TV show shows based off of a couple of Disney princesses.
