This just in – a Stargirl sequel is officially in the works at Disney+!
Director Julia Hart and star Grace VanderWaal are both set to return for the follow-up, THR reports.
Julia and Jordan Horowitz, who co-wrote the first movie with Kirsten Hahn, “have written the original script that follows Stargirl’s journey out of Mica and into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibility,” the site says.
Grace will also write and perform new original music for the sequel.
Elijah Richardson, who played Al Morris in When They See Us, is set to play the new romantic lead.
It’s been almost a year since Stargirl first premiered on Disney+. The first movie starred Grace and Graham Verchere, and was based off of the novel of the same name by Jerry Spinelli.
The teen actor plays Benny Burrito in the flick, which stars Grace VanderWaal in the title role.
Speaking with JJJ, Collin revealed how many burritos he had to eat for the movie.
“I ate about 40 burritos, 6 hot dogs, popcorn, pizza and a huge bag of chips while filming Stargirl,” he said. “I even had a spit bucket for the burrito scenes!”

The young stars were there to talk about their upcoming movie, which they announced will launch on the new streaming service in early 2020.
Gina Rodriguez was also there to talk about a new series called Diary of a Female President, which she is executive producing. She’ll also be a recurring guest star on the show. She was joined by star Tess Romero to announce that the series will premiere on Disney+ in January. Told using the narration from her diary, this half-hour single camera comedy follows 12-year-old Cuban-American girl Elena’s journey through the trials of middle school, which set her on the path to ultimately become president of the United States.
