Anya Taylor-Joy and Douglas Booth show off their fashionable outfits while walking the red carpet for the 2016 IWC Schaffhausen Dinner Gala held in honor of the British Film Institute on Tuesday (October 4) in London, England.
The 29-year-old “On My Mind” singer chatted with the glossy about the status of their relationship, songwriting and more. Check it:
On being in a relationship with someone in the business: “Dougie and I have such different musical worlds, but he understands when I’ve had a tough rehearsal or tough couple of days traveling. I don’t like to rely on him to get me through everything, though. I’m an independent person—I do like to take care of things myself. It’s important to figure out ways of keeping your own Zen.”
On the status of their relationship: “Relationships have their ups and downs. And sometimes, yeah, I want to be left alone. Dougie is respectful of that.”
On her solo songwriting process: “My music and me, it’s such a solitary—I don’t want to say lonely, because that sounds sad—internal thing. It’s hard to explain. Fans say, ‘Oh my God! I love [the song “Lights”]!’ and I’m like, ‘Ah, thank you!’ But in my head I’m thinking, God, if only you knew what I went through to write that.”
The 28-year-old singer opens up about sexism in the music industry, her friendship with Taylor Swift and her school friendships. Check it:
On sexism in the music industry: “I get annoyed when men write degrading songs about women, but women are starting to speak out. And I got annoyed when Glastonbury had so many men on the line-up… but then Florence headlined. Things are changing, you know? And I love it.”
On what Taylor Swift is really like: “She’s really funny. She’s got a very British sense of humour. We love doing scenes from The Office.”
On cherishing her school friendships: “I have friends who are famous, and I have friends who are not famous, but those older connections are the particularly special ones…High school and primary school are so special to me. If anyone said, ‘We’re having a reunion,’ I’d be so excited!”
