Disney debuted the new Princess’ royal gown over the weekend and revealed details about it’s making, which was designed by Project Runway All Stars‘ alum Layana Aguilar.
Making its debut on the Disney channel in July, Elena is a brave and adventurous teenager who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must learn to rule until she is old enough to be queen.
Speaking with WWD, Layana drew on her South American heritage, “The feeling to it is very Peruvian, Inca-like. When they first showed me Princess Elena and I read a little bit about that story, it took me back to that memory.”

In the animated series centers on Elena, whose journey began long ago when her parents and kingdom were taken from her by the evil sorceress Shuriki. She bravely faced the sorceress to protect her little sister, Princess Isabel (Jenna Ortega), and grandparents but in the process, her magical amulet pulled her inside its enchanted jewel, saving her life but imprisoning her at the same time.
Decades later, Princess Sofia of Enchancia (Ariel Winter) discovers the truth about the amulet she has worn since joining her royal family and sets out to restore Elena to her human form and help her return to the kingdom of Avalor.

Disney’s first Latina Princess is set to make her debut around the Disney Parks this coming August, according to the Disney Parks blog. Elena will appear in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort.
She’ll also make her debut on television this year on Sofia the First, before getting her own series.

Disney Junior’s Elena of Avalor just got a few new cast members!
Jane The Virgin and Stuck in the Middle starlet Jenna Ortega and Awkward‘s Jillian Rose Reed have joined the cast, as Princess Isabel and Naomi, Elena’s younger sister and best friend, respectively.
Also joining the cast are Chris Parnell, Yvette Nicole Brown and Carlos Alazraqui will voice Migs, Luna and Skylar respectively, magical flying creatures called Jaquins who support Elena as she learns how to rule her kingdom.
Emiliano D�ez as Elena’s grandfather Francisco; Julia Vera as grandmother Luisa; Christian Lanz as Elena’s uncle and Royal Advisor Duke Esteban; Joseph Haro as another of Elena’s close friends Mateo, a wizard-in-training; Jorge Diaz as Elena’s friend and rising star of the Royal Guard, Gabe; Keith Ferguson as Zuzo, a mysterious and wily spirit animal that acts as a link between the human and spirit worlds; and Joe Nunez as Armando, a frazzled palace servant who helps Elena on her journey to the throne, will also be a part of the animated series.
Princess Elena, voiced by Aimee Carrero, will make her debut in a special episode of Sofia the First before getting her own series later this year.
