Elle Fanning is on the cover of Elle UK‘s February 2017 issue, which hits newsstands tomorrow, January 10!
The 18-year-old actress spoke about limiting her social media presence, her friend group, and more! Here’s what she shared…
On avoiding exes on social media: “It’s so hard in this era when an ex is only a text away. Back in the day they had to work up the courage to call on the phone, talk to your parents, and when you broke up you didn’t see them again. But now, between Snapchat and Instagram, you can see everything � especially them with a new partner. But it’s damaging so you have to stop… I have high anxiety and I’m on my phone constantly, so I find myself comparing myself to others.”
On limiting her social media presence: “I recently turned my Instagram public on my 18th birthday, but I still don’t post everything I do, and I’m not on Twitter or Facebook. You have to leave a little mystery. With old movie stars, all you saw were rare interviews where they only shared what they wanted to � that’s what made them so interesting. You could separate the characters from the women, so if you watch them on screen you’re not thinking about what they had for breakfast.”
On selecting friendships: “I’m not someone that has a lot of friends. I see people who have many friends and get really jealous. I have a good core of three or four friends who are really close to me.”

“We’re huge fans of Survivor,” Elle said of her family. “[Host Jeff Probst] frequents this Coffee Bean he goes to. I love him. I send [photos of him] to family group chat.”

Elle Fanning is such a better roller skater than we are — and that’s including her little fall she shared on her Instagram this week.
The Live By Night actress shared a few videos on her Instagram from her roller skating outing with a few friends.
In the second vid, you can see Elle totally feeling the song playing and showing off her skills, but at the bitter end, gets a little ahead of herself and falls!

On social media and making her Instagram account public: “Well, my parents never let me have a Facebook account. And I had a private Instagram, but I was always a little intimidated by it. I have never had a Twitter account. People just argue on Twitter and I want to stay away. I guess I like Instagram because I am a visual person.”
On her role in 20th Century Women: “I play a girl who goes to high school in the late ’70s in Santa Barbara, but I have never, you know, stood in the hall of a school, doing high school things.”
On going back to school: “If I do go back to school one day, which I think I will, it will be for photography.”
On growing up in Hollywood: “It all feels very normal to me. I’ve always been on movie sets, and I have learned so much. I really hope to be a director one day, to feel so free to invent stuff…To have something that’s mine, my own thing that I pour myself into, that’s my dream.”

Dakota and Elle Fanning pose together while attending the Anton Yelchin Photography Exhibit grand opening at Other Gallery on Saturday (November 5) in Los Angeles.
The exhibit features photography from the late Anton, and is described as “experimental, provocative and surrealist.” It will contain 40 images and proceeds from print sales will benefit the Anton Yelchin Foundation, according to Access Hollywood.

A new trailer for Elle Fanning‘s upcoming flick 20th Century Women has been released!
The film, which also stars Annette Bening and Greta Gerwig, follows a single mother raising her adolescent son in California in 1979, a time brimming with cultural change and rebellion.
She enlists the help of two younger women to play key roles in her son’s upbringing – a free spirited artist living as a boarder in their home as well as their teenage neighbor.
20th Century Women is set to be released on December 25th.
