The grown-ish cast get glammed up for their season two photo shoot!

The second season of the show will follow Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends as they enter their second year at CalU with confidence and swagger. Learning from the ups and downs of their first year, they all think they’ve got their second year on lock, but quickly realize that they’re not as grown as they think.

Grown-ish will premiere on Wednesday, January 2nd at 8 PM ET/PT on Freeform.

In the first episode, Zoey and the gang return for their sophomore year and Zoey is determined to make the “sequel” better than the original. She, Ana and Nomi move into a less-than-stellar off-campus apartment and have to quickly adjust to each other as roommates. Zoey is excited to see Luca again after a summer of keeping in touch via social media.

Yara Shahidi wore sneakers with her cute pink ensemble at the 2018 Disney/ABC International Upfronts held at the Walt Disney Studio Lot on Sunday afternoon (May 20) in Burbank, Calif.

The 18-year-old actress met up with her grown-ish castmates Francia Raisa, Trevor Jackson, Emily Arlook and sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey.

Francia Raisa turns heads in a red hot blazer dress while arriving at the 2018 ABC Freeform Upfronts held at Tavern On The Green on Tuesday night (May 15) in New York City.

The grown-ish actress joined her on-screen family Jordan Buhat, Trevor Jackson, Luka Sabbat, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, and Emily Arlook, as well as Yara Shahidi, who spoke at the presentation.

Speaking with People recently, Yara opened up about how being on grown-ish, and its’ flagship show, black-ish, have changed her and taught her things she’s grateful for.

“I feel like what Black-ish and Grown-ish have taught me is that my opinion matters,” she shared. “It’s something that I already knew, and something that my parents always affirmed, but I guess it was a re-affirmation of sorts.”

Yara adds, “Being on a set in which they want to hear your voice, and they want to hear your input — you know, it’s very special for an actor — but particularly, a teenager. And a teenage girl. There’s statistics done on just how subdued our voices are, because we aren’t really given a space, or the support.”

The singer and actress wore an eye-catching neon yellow gown to the annual party, which she attended alongside grown-ish stars Francia Raisa and Emily Arlook, Gregg Sulkin and Storm Reid.

The two grown-ish stars celebrated their season two renewal at the event along with Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Jordan Buhat, Halle Bailey, and Emily Arlook.

Speaking with US Weekly at the event, Francia previewed that Ana’s Republican side will be coming out soon.

“There’s so much that happens on this show,” she shared. “I’m the only Republican in our friend group, so expect my voice to be heard on that and an argument to basically start because a lot of people don’t like that side of me. So it touches on a lot of issues.”

The cast of grown-ish gather up for a group shot at a screening event for the show in Los Angeles on Wednesday (December 13).

Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Halle Bailey, Chloe Bailey, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat and Chris Parnell gathered with creator Kenya Barris to chat about the show — which was actually inspired by a meme!

“I saw a meme one day and it said, ‘Where would Zoey go to college?’ I was like, ‘This is a f�ing show.’ That was my lightbulb moment,” Kenya told Variety.

He adds that the show will be tackling all issues that college students face during their tenure: “We wanted to make sure we gave as honest an experience of what this walk is as possible. This is a generation with a lot to say.”

“The one thing my generation is good at is finding a model for success,” Yara says.

grown-ish will debut on Wednesday, January 3rd on Freeform.
