Ender’s Game, opening in November, is set 70 years after a horrific alien war where an unusually gifted child (Butterfield) is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Gavin Hood explained the relationship depicted in the picture, “The relationship between [Harrison] and Asa was very close, but he didn’t overly befriend him off the set. He helped Asa by allowing that slight sense of intimidation to be there.”
He added about the book to big screen adaption, “I am a fan and I have had a desire to do this and have been working on this now for nearly four years. That ending — and the complex moral questions that it raises — is one of the reasons why I love the book. I promise you that it is very much there.”
