Janel Parrish Shares Her Favorite 'Pretty Little Liars' Scene (Exclusive)

Mona Vanderwaal has had so many epic scenes on Pretty Little Liars, that it’s hard to choose your favorite.

However, star Janel Parrish did!

The actress spoke with JJJ recently and when we asked about her favorite scenes to film, she didn’t hesitate in saying Camp Mona!

“Camp Mona was a blast!” she shared. “[It was] the start of me really learning how to play Queen Mona.”

Some other of Janel‘s favorites: “The A reveal will always be special to me. I was terrified I wouldn’t play the first A right in the fans’ eyes. And most recently, the musical dream sequence. I’ve always been a theater baby, so that was so much fun.”

We also had to ask Janel on if she took anything from the set, but it doesn’t seem like she did.

“I should have taken a black hoodie! What was I thinking?!”

Aspiring Author 101: All Things New's Lauren Miller on Honing Your Skills

Aspiring Author 101: All Things New's Lauren Miller on Honing Your Skills

Do you have dreams of becoming a novelist? Aspiring Author 101 is a new feature on JustJaredJr.com where we dive into the nitty gritty of writing a novel with some of our favorite, successful YA authors.

Our next writer is the super talented Lauren Miller, best known for her succeessful novels Free to Fall and Parallel.

She has a new book titled All Things New, which is “a love story about perception and truth, physical and emotional pain, and the messy, complicated people we are behind the masks we put on for the world.”

We sat down with Lauren to get some advice on what to write, where to write, and basically just pick her brain about all things writing.

All Things New hits shelves on August 1. Pre-order it now!

JJJ Author’s Corner Q&A – Lauren Miller

On book everyone should read at some point?Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. It’s a collection of essays on writing by one of my favorite living writers. If you don’t know Anne Lamott, you should. Her voice is truly incomparable, and Bird by Bird is one of her best. It’s full of practical tips but the writing advice sort of isn’t the point. Bird by Bird is a meditation on what it means to be a writer. A kind of how-to guide for those of us who feel called to live the writing life.”

One book you’ll never get tired of reading? The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. Or any book by Oliver Sacks, honestly. For those who aren’t familiar with him, he was a neurologist and writer who wrote about his most unusual patients. Each chapter is a case study about a particular person with some crazy neurological aberration. The subject matter itself is fascinating to me, but Sacks’ voice is what draws me back to his books again and again. There is so much intellect but also so much humility and humanity in his writing.”

Hardcover, paperback or digital copies? “Paperback, no question. There is something about the bendy quality of a paperback book, how it fits into your hands and into your bag and into your life. I’m definitely not precious with the books I own – they get coffee dripped on them and bath water splashed on them and cookie crumbs jammed in their page cracks. Plus, of course, paperbacks are lighter for carrying, and since I always, always have my laptop with me, weight is always an issue! E-books are great for space saving, but I find the reading experience sort of disorienting because I don’t know where I am in the story. You can see what percentage you’ve read, but that’s not the same as feeling the already-read pages in your hand.”

'Stuck in the Middle' Star Cerina Vincent Shares 10 Fun Facts With JJJ!

Get to know Cerina Vincent from Stuck in the Middle!

The Las Vegas native of course plays Suzy Diaz – the mother of the seven kids on the show.

“I’ve had the opportunity to play a lot of different roles in my career,” Cerina told us. “Been on a ton of bloody fun horror sets, teen comedies, dramas., etc…but I have to say, playing a mother is really rewarding. The Stuck in the Middle writers have given me such fun, quirky, and meaningful material to bring to life.”

“Also, when I yell at or reprimand the kids… I realize I sound just like my own mother!” she said. “And she thinks so, too!! It’s wild how certain roles live inside you and are just waiting for the right project to let them out.”

Check out 10 fun facts Cerina shared with us:

1. I LOVE to cook. I’m Italian so it’s literally in my blood. I cook with clean, organic, healthy whole foods, and I love making new things. I have chicken tortilla soup on my stove right now. Oh, and I’m a professional at turning “there’s nothing in my kitchen” into a really rad meal!

2. I have 36 first cousins, 64 second cousins, and 28 third cousins. And that’s just on my Dad’s side! There’s a lot of love in this family. I’m grateful to have been born into it.

3. I’ve been doing yoga for 17 years, and I try to meditate everyday.

Janel Parrish On 'Pretty Little Liars' Mona: 'She Really Wants To Be Friends With the Liars'

Janel Parrish On 'Pretty Little Liars' Mona: 'She Really Wants To Be Friends With the Liars'

Janel Parrish stuns in her new photo shoot with photographer Glenn Nutley, debuting on JustJaredJr.com.

The Pretty Little Liars actress also talked with JJJ about Mona’s legacy on the show and just what she’ll be getting up to in the final few episodes.

“She’s smart. She’s snarky. She’s sneaky,” Janel tells us about her love-to-hate character.

“She looks out for herself. She knows how to survive and isn’t apologizing for how she does it.”

In the upcoming episodes, “Mona starts to get pulled in by the darkness of the game” — which we all saw she had stashed in her apartment in last week’s ep.

Janel adds, “It starts to mess with her mind a bit…you’ll see Mona go on a bit of an emotional journey.”

We also talked about just how Mona is part of the Liars, but isn’t — she’s that 6th wheel out, who’s trying to be part of it all.

“I think she’s genuinely sad. She has always wants to be accepted by the girls…takes her back to those nerdy Mona days,” she told us. “She has done some awful things to them.”

However, Janel has a point about Mona trying to make it up to them.

“I do feel she genuinely has been trying to prove she deserves a place in their group. She’s just bit too snarky and smug to admit it to them all.”
