Written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, the movie opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures.
Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incidentwere it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Daniel Radcliffe will no longer be starring in any Harry Potter movies (and he’s even said that he won’t star in the upcoming stage show), but he seems to have jealousy over Eddie Redmayne‘s upcoming spin-off movie!
Eddie will be playing Newt Salamander in the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Daniel recently cursed out the Oscar-winning actor in a new interview as he seemed to be jealous over his costume.
“Oh f– you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a greatcoat already?” Daniel jokingly told NME.
You can see more of Eddie in the upcoming film when it hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
If you don’t want to know anything about the flick, STOP READING NOW, but if you do — check the plot below!
“Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) comes to New York (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. This case is one of those way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside magical devices, and within are expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe. He discovers the American wizarding community is fearfully hiding from Muggles (who are called “No-Maj” in the States, more on that here) and the threat of public exposure is an even graver concern than in the UK. Fantastic Beasts is the story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous get out of their case.”
And that’s not all! Character descriptions have also been released! Check them below:
Eddie is Newt Scamander, the eccentric globe-hopping English “magizoologist” wizard who’s far more comfortable around beasts and creatures than he is around other people. He comes to New York on a quest with his case full of magical habitats containing rare and endangered species.
Then we have sister Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol). Tina is an ambitious worker at the Magical Congress of the United States of America while Queenie is a big-hearted free-spirit “legilimens” who can read minds.
Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler): an optimistic No-Maj (aka Muggle) factory worker/aspiring baker who gets introduced to the wizarding world when he meets Newt.
Graves (Colin Farrell): A powerful auror and the right-hand man of the American wizarding world’s president.
Mary Lou (Samantha Morton): the narrow-minded leader of the fanatical Second Salemers, a group looking to expose and destroy wizards and witches.
Credence (Ezra Miller): Mary Lou’s troubled adopted son.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters on November 18th, 2016.
According to Variety, the 22-year-old actor is a frontrunner for the role of Kredan in the highly-anticipated Harry Potter spin-off by J.K. Rowling.
Sources tell the outlet that Ezra was always the favorite for the role, though the deal has yet to close.
“Set in New York roughly seven decades before Harry Potter‘s saga starts, Fantastic Beasts is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name and follows the adventures of its author, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).”
WHAT DO YOU THINK of Ezra Miller playing the role of Kredan?
Another star has been cast in the upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them… Katherine Waterston will be playing the female lead!
The 35-year-old actress is joining the previously announced Eddie Redmayne in the spin-off of the Harry Potter franchise.
Katherine, best known for starring in last year’s Inherent Vice, will play “Tina, short for Porpentina, a witch who works her magic in the U.S. She meets magizoologist Newt Scamander (Redmayne) when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures,” according to Variety.
WHAT DO YOU THINK of Katherine Waterston’s casting?
“Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman said in a statement (via EW). “We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling‘s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
The movie is set to hit theaters on November 18, 2016 in 3D and IMAX!
