Normani Explains That This Isn't The Reason Fifth Harmony Took A Break

If you’re still worried that something big and horrible happened between Fifth Harmony that caused their break up, let us calm your fears.

Normani spoke to People about that theory, and it’s just not true.

“Honestly, nothing necessarily happened. It was kind of just a good time. It was the right time for us,” she shared. “It’s been six years, and we dedicated absolutely everything that we’ve had to the group. We recognized that we deserve to be our own people.”

Fifth Harmony announced their plans for a hiatus last month, and although there’s no new music coming from them now, they’ll still be in each others lives.

“We’re our biggest cheerleaders,” Normani adds. “Those are my sisters. I couldn’t get rid of them even if I wanted to — trust me!”

Normani Says It Was 'Scary' Announcing Fifth Harmony's Hiatus to Fans

It’s been almost a month since Normani and Fifth Harmony announced their hiatus plans to fans – and it’s something that was incredibly scary.

The 21-year-old singer spoke to ET about the band’s decision, and she admitted that it was a scary thing to do.

“[It was] very scary, and heartbreaking for me personally,” she shared. “The first day that we even put out the announcement for the hiatus, it was the toughest day.”

She adds, “So many people saying, ‘Oh my god, what happened? What’s wrong?’ Just having that attention on something that you already know is real and the fact that now everybody else knows it’s real, it’s like, ‘Wow, this is really happening.’”

However, Normani is excited for the road ahead and putting out her own, solo music.

“It’s a discovery for myself, you know? There are so many people that are excited for me, trying to see, ‘Oh, what is she gonna do next? ‘What does Normani sound like?’” she says. “I’m still trying to figure that out.

Normani adds that she’s in “the studio and its really cool because I talk about things that I actually wanna talk about and things that I feel genuinely, and I can finally fully be myself.”

Sam Smith Is More Upset About Fifth Harmony's Hiatus Than Anyone Else

We’re pretty sure that it will be difficult to find someone more upset about Fifth Harmony‘s hiatus than the group’s superfan Sam Smith!

The singer tweeted out his reaction to the news on Monday afternoon (March 19) and he used more than 50 exclamation points to express his feelings.

“FIFTH HARMONY!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he wrote.

Sam previously met the girls of the group – Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei – during his Carpool Karaoke segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden. He called the moment a “dream” and has publicly stanned for them in the past!

Fifth Harmony has three live shows scheduled before they wrap up their run as a group.

Here's Everything Fifth Harmony Ever Said About The Band Breaking Up

Here's Everything Fifth Harmony Ever Said About The Band Breaking Up

To some fans, Fifth Harmony‘s announcement that the group was taking a hiatus was a big surprise — but for many, they sensed it was coming.

The first rumors about a break up came even before Camila Cabello left the band in 2016.

The break up comments startled Harmonizers after Dinah Jane said that they probably would go their separate ways later, but just not at that moment.

“We’ve been together for basically three years now and looking back…we’re very, very happy with where we’re at right now. But from here on out, we wanna hopefully win a couple more awards together…maybe build more music together as well,” she shared. “But I feel like we’ll probably go our separate ways later on. That’s the truth.”

After Camila did strike out on her own, the band battled more rumors about another split just months after. But they were committed to each other.

“Fifth Harmony is the home base…where we always come back,” Normani said, while discussing their latest single at the time, “Down”.

We’re all still trying to get a handle on Fifth Harmony announcing their “indefinite hiatus” this morning.

While we’re definitely going to miss them as a group, we know that Lauren Jauregui, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Ally Brooke will still be putting out amazing music.

And, as a group, they’re still up for a Kids’ Choice Award this weekend too!

Fifth Harmony is up for Favorite Music Group, against The Chainsmokers, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5 and Twenty One Pilots.

It’s an award they’ve won for two years staight — so, we have a good feeling that this could be another win for them.

Fifth Harmony also picked up the Best New Artist in 2015, and also won Favorite Song last year.
