Ginny Thrasher waves to the crowd while being presented with Team USA’s first gold medal during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Saturday (Augsut 6) at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 19-year-old West Virginia University picked up the medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s Finals.
“This is very special for me,” Ginny said after her big win (via USA Today). “For me to start Rio 2016 with a gold medal for the USA makes me incredibly proud. I started to realize it was a real possibility about half way through but I pushed that quickly out of my mind.”
