Cierra Ramirez Says That Mariana Will Struggle With Finding Her Place on 'Good Trouble'

Cierra Ramirez Says That Mariana Will Struggle With Finding Her Place on 'Good Trouble'

Good Trouble is set to premiere in January on Freeform and we’re getting a little more intel on the new series from star Cierra Ramirez.

Talking with Hollywood Life, the -year-old actress opened up about where the show picks up and what kind of struggles you’ll see both Mariana, and Callie (Maia Mitchell), going through.

“It takes place a couple of weeks after the wedding or the series finale,” Cierra shared. “Mariana and Callie move to LA together. Callie’s working in law, and Mariana’s working at a tech startup as an engineer. They’re going to kind of take on their 20s together.”

She continues, “I think moving to a new city and feeling like you have everything together, their dreams of that get crushed really quick when you don’t get handed things. You really have to work for them. I think Mariana has an idea of what her work experience is going to be like, and it’s just the complete opposite.”

“She’s going to kind of struggle this season finding her place in the tech world, as a Latina woman in tech. You’re going find her trying to fight the patriarchy but also kind of knowing her place in this work world where she’s trying to get ahead. You know Mariana doesn’t take no for an answer,” Cierra adds. “If there’s something wrong in her life, she’s going to fix it. I’m excited for people to see that.”

Cierra also dished on how Good Trouble will be different from what fans are used to with The Fosters: “It is a lot edgier and sexier. You’ll see these girls in a way that you’ve never seen them before.”

“It feels different, but it feels the same,” she says. “It’s really weird. I think one thing I love about The Fosters is that it’s a blended family, and I think moving to this new town, at least they have each other, but they do create a kind of family of their own in a way.”

Meet the hot new guy coming to Good TroubleTommy Martinez!

The actor will portray Gael, a “beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, talented artist, Latin guy who lives on the roof in the old greenhouse”, who might cause a little drama between sisters Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), EP Joanna Johnson shared with EW.

“The girls are taken by this guy,” she adds, “at least initially,’ both women are romantically interested in him. “He’s not only just handsome, but really charming.”

She also shared that Callie and Mariana are coming to terms with being actual adults – and all the responsibilities that come with it.

“You can come out of college as a hot shot, straight-As, graduate at the top of your class, but you’re still going to start at the bottom of the ladder. That often is a rude awakening,” Joanna explains. “They’re both really struggling with that, as well as where they’re going to live, where they can afford to live, paying bills for the first time.”

Noah Centineo To Reprise Role as Jesus For 'Good Trouble'

Jesus Adams Foster is coming to Los Angeles – on Good Trouble that is.

This afternoon, after appearing on Cierra Ramirez‘ Instagram Stories, it was confirmed that Noah Centineo will be reprising his Fosters role on the spinoff series.

The last time we saw Jesus, it was just after Brandon and Eliza’s wedding and after he and Emma decided to take a break from their relationship.

So, where will he be in life when the series premieres and he pops up? We definitely can’t wait to see!

In the first look video, you can watch as the two arrive to the big city to begin the next phase of their young adult lives in Los Angeles, and by the end, it reveals that they aren’t handling it as well as they thought.

The series will bring back Teri Polo, Sherri Saum and Hayden Byerly for guest roles, and also star Tommy Martinez, Zuri Adele, Ken Kirby, Emma Hunton, Molly McCook, and Roger Bart, Sherry Cola.

Good Trouble, which has a 13-episode order, will debut in January 2019.

It was just announced that Hayden Byerly is returning to The Fosters universe on Good Trouble, and we could not be more excited.

However, if you remember, when we left Jude, he wasn’t in the best place – he was having an extremely hard time in college and Callie actually took her clerkship in Los Angeles to be closer to Jude.

EP Joanna Johnson spoke to TVLine about where we would find Jude when he pops up on the spinoff series.

“He’s doing a lot better at school,” she shared. “We really enjoyed seeing Hayden play older [in the finale]. I thought he just killed it. I thought he was really great. So we’re excited to see 19-year-old Jude. He is in a better place than we left him.”

She also shared that she’s hoping to see Brandon, Eliza and Jesus pop up on the series next.

“We want to see them all this season, for sure, as long as they’re willing to come.”
