Penn Badgley Almost Didn't Play Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey

Penn Badgley Almost Didn't Play Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey

Can you imagine Gossip Girl without Penn Badgley as Lonely Boy Dan Humphrey?

Well, he almost wasn’t. The You actor’s role was almost filled by Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Alden Ehrenreich instead!

“Before Penn was involved, I desperately wanted Alden Ehrenreich to play Dan,” casting director David Rapaport revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

It came down to height – Alden was apparently too short to star alongside Blake Lively‘s Serena van der Woodsen.

David was sure about Blake playing Serena, though: “They were looking for someone who was casually cool, effortlessly chic, and—as a performer—was able to access their feelings. I was looking for this perfect person that would deliver on every level. I did not have another choice. I knew in my heart there was no one else.”

Gossip Girl is now streaming on Netflix!

XOXO.

Netflix's Blurb About 'Gossip Girl' Is So Spot On!

Netflix's Blurb About 'Gossip Girl' Is So Spot On!

Gossip Girl will probably one of the most love to hate, bingeworthy shows ever and we are 100% thankful that it’s on Netflix for us to watch.

However, subscribers have just noticed the description of the series and are reeling over it.

“Rich, unreasonable attractive private school students do horrible, scandalous things to each other. Repeatedly,” the blurb reads on the series title card, which was first noticed by comedian Lane Moore.

“Netflix: ‘let’s get someone who f***in hates Gossip Girl to write the description of Gossip Girl,’” she reacted on Twitter, sharing her find with everyone.

Needless to say, it quickly went viral and the reactions to the blurb are amazing – others quickly pointing out that blurbs for other shows are just like this.

Could you picture Jennifer Lawrence as Gossip Girl‘s Serena? It actually could have happened!

The show’s creator, Josh Schwartz, just spilled in a new interview with Vulture about Jennifer‘s audition for the part of Serena van der Woodsen, which was ultimately played by Blake Lively, when she was just a teenager.

“We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned. This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it,” he said.

“We can’t remember if we saw it or not. It was ten years ago, and she would’ve been how old, 15?”

It’s safe to say Jennifer is handling the rejection just fine these days.

If we’re being real, when it comes to the teen drama Gossip Girl, there are likely more people who are fans of the character Blair Waldorf than Serena van der Woodsen — and actress Dove Cameron is no exception.

“whEre haS sHe beEn *serenA* AND WHO AM I,” she tweeted to her followers yesterday, suggesting that she was binge-watching the show enough to have memorized the opening monologue.

“WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT SERENA,” she tweeted again not long after, “NO ONE LIKES SERENA.”

OMG we have to know which episode prompted that response! (It could have been so many.)

Don’t worry, D – we’re also on team B.

Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick Says No To Any Kind of Reunion

Reunions are all over the place right now — there’s Will & Grace, Gilmore Girls, Full House

But one show you probably won’t see for a very, very, very long time? Gossip Girl.

Star Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass, isn’t up for one either.

“It feels like we only just finished! And I haven’t done enough in between yet to feel like I could comfortably revisit it,” he shared in a recent interview. “And I did so much with that character it’s played out, man. It’s done.”

What do the other cast think?

Leighton Meester is with Ed, saying, “”I started Gossip Girl 10 years ago when I was 20, and I’m 30 now. I loved doing it, and now I’m doing something else that I love, and something new that’s a little bit more my taste as a 30 year old, something I’ve grown into.”

What about Blake Lively? She’d be into one, if it was done right.

“I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did,” she shared. “But would I do that? Who knows – if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City.”
