Disney Channel's 'Amphibia' To Pay Homage To 'Gravity Falls' In Upcoming Episode

Gravity Falls fans will be super excited about this!!

Disney Channel’s animated series Amphibia will be paying a bit of a tribute to the former, fan favorite Disney XD series, Variety reveals.

In an upcoming episode, “Wax Museum”, Sprig, Anne and their family will travel to a mysterious roadside oddities museum that looks and feels quite a bit like the Mystery Shack on Gravity Falls, and GF creator Alex Hirsch will voice the character, The Curator, a Grunkle Stan-like character who owns the “Curiosity Hut” and features a frog custodian named “Frog Soos.”

“I have always wanted to create a Gravity Falls tribute in Amphibia,” Amphibia creator Matt Braly, who also worked on Gravity Falls, said. “I just didn’t know when or how. The two shows share so much DNA that it seemed like a missed opportunity not to have the worlds interact in some fashion. So when Amphibia writer Jenava Hudek pitched an episode where the Plantars would stop at a creepy wax museum during their roadtrip, I knew this was our golden opportunity. Jenava herself was a huge Gravity Falls fan and leapt at the chance to work with its iconic characters. The decision was made early to feature alternative universe versions of Grunkle Stan and Soos as frogs. This would be the easiest way to pay homage without stepping on anyone’s toes continuity wise.”

“Not only did he end up voicing the characters but he even improvised a number of his lines in the booth, giving the characters that classic Gravity Falls off the cuff flair,” Matt added. “It’s no surprise that the Amphibia episode ‘Wax Museum’ is one of my favorite episodes of the season and that the Curator and Frog Soos are stand out characters. Working on this episode felt like coming home in a lot of ways.”

Season two of Amphibia, which stars Brenda Song as the voice of Anne, will premiere THIS Saturday (July 11), and the episode “Wax Museum” will air on August 8th.

To add on to the exciting news, it was recently announced that Amphibia has already been picked up for a season three!!!

'Gravity Falls' Series Finale To Air in February

'Gravity Falls' Series Finale To Air in February

It’s time to really say goodbye to Gravity Falls.

Disney XD has confirmed that the last episode will air on February 15th, along with a 68-hour marathon starting on Friday, February 12th.

Creator and executive producer Alex Hirsch announced the ending of the show over the Thanksgiving holiday, shocking fans with an open letter.

“The first thing to know is that the show isn’t being cancelled- it’s being finished. This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end,” he wrote.

Gravity Falls revolved around the adventures of 12-year-old twins Mabel and Dipper Pines, who are sent to live for a summer with their great-uncle “gruncle” Stan at the roadside attraction he runs in a small Oregon town.

Disney XD's 'Gravity Falls' Ends After Two Seasons

Disney XD's 'Gravity Falls' Ends After Two Seasons

Disney ended the animated series Gravity Falls after 2 seasons on Friday (November 20), according to show’s creator Alex Hirsh.

The mystery cartoon tells the story of 12-year-old siblings Dipper and Mabel Pines navigating their way through an interesting summer at their uncle’s tourist attraction, The Mystery Shack.

Alex took to his Tumblr to explain the tough decision.

“There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end,” he said.

However, according to Alex the show’s ending is exactly how he wanted it go all along.

“The first thing to know is that the show isn’t being cancelled- it’s being finished. This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end,” he continued.

The show will have two final episodes: “Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality” and “Weirdmageddon III”. Both shows will be an hour long with the first of the two airing Monday (November 23).
