KJ Apa Just Became New Zealand's Most Followed Celebrity on Instagram

KJ Apa has got some major numbers on Instagram right now — 6.2 million followers and counting.

That number puts the Riverdale star ahead of fellow Kiwi, Lorde, as the most followed New Zealand celeb on the social network.

Lorde is currently sitting at 6 million, which is still a huge following.

Obviously, she was at the center of talks because of her fashion choices — which were amazing, by the way.

Rico and Raini Rodriguez took the #2 spot, as some of our readers were surprised to find out that they were indeed siblings.

Kristen Stewart‘s major hair change got a ton of likes, and Maia Mitchell and Rudy Mancuso were hands down your fave real life couple of the year.

Instagram Adds New Feature - Follow Hashtags!

Instagram has added another new feature!

You can now follow a hashtag in the app so you receive all the latest on a specific subject matter.

Once you click on a hashtag, it will show up at the top of the screen, then you can click the follow button just as you would on a profile.

When you follow a hashtag, you can view the top posts from that tag, view the latest stories, and you can also see what hashtags people follow in their profiles.

Earlier this month, Instagram developed a warning system to combat animal abuse.

Instagram Has Developed A Warning System To Combat Animal Abuse

Instagram is continuing to be one of the best platforms out there right now.

Today, the social network launched a warning system to combat animal abuse and illegal wildlife trafficking.

If you hop on the platform and just want to see a ton of Koala pics, or Sloths, or even Alligators, you can — but before you see them, you’ll see a little warning message that notifies you about the possible abuse of endangered animals associated with these photos.

The warning system also says that you are possibly “searching for a hashtag that may be associated with posts that encourage harmful behavior to animals or the environment.”

There are three options when the warning comes up – Cancel, Show Posts or Learn More.

If you choose “Learn More”, you’ll get a ton of information regarding the exploitation of wildlife for human enjoyment. Instagram will also give the same announcements for hashtags advertising exotic animals for sale.

Emily Cain, a spokeswoman for Instagram, explains that Instagram cares deeply about the welfare of animals and that responsible interactions with wildlife are part of the platform’s values.

“I think it’s important for the community right now to be more aware. We’re trying to do our part to educate them.”
