Kristine Froseth & Jayme Lawson Cast as Young First Ladies In Upcoming 'The First Lady' Series

Kristine Froseth has an exciting new role!

The 25-year-old Looking For Alaska actress has been cast as a young Betty Ford in the new series The First Lady, Variety reports.

Michelle Pfeiffer will also be playing Betty Ford in the Showtime series, which is described as a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House.

Kristine‘s version of Betty sees her “as she trains as a dancer for Martha Graham in New York City, and into her 20s in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she worked for Herpolsheimer’s Department Store and eventually married Gerald Ford.” She will appear in three episodes.

Here’s a synopsis: In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic First Ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of three unique, enigmatic women, tracing their journeys to Washington through an enlightening intimacy, with season one focusing on Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt.

It was also announced that Jayme Lawson, who will also appear in the upcoming The Batman, has been cast as a young Michelle Obama from the ages 15-30. “The series begins with Obama as a young woman in Chicago and follows her as a Harvard undergraduate and Princeton Law School student, eventually marrying Barack Obama in 1992.”

Viola Davis has also been cast as a present day Michelle. Viola and her husband Julius Tennon will also executive produce through their JuVee Productions.
