Jean-Luc Bilodeau steals a glance at Jennette McCurdy in this new still from The Best Player.
JJJ recently sat down with Jennette, 18, to chat about the film, her gaming past and how she spent her first day in Vancouver. Check it:
On her character: “Chris is a girl who is kind of edgy but still kind of shy and almost an outcast. She doesn’t really feel comfortable in social situations, in her class or with people her own age. She’s kind of awkward in that sense.”
On her video game obsessions: “I have three older brothers so it’s inevitable that I play video games. I think I would get so much flack if I wasn’t (laughs). My favorite system is Nintendo 64. But I’ve played every system. I love computer games a lot. I was always playing City of Heroes. I got really into it.”
On working with Jean-Luc: “Jean-Luc is great and a super-sweet guy. We would hang out after working because we were in Vancouver and he actually lives there. He definitely welcomed me in and showed me the city. It was great.”
On her first adventure in Vancouver: “Our welcoming party, the first day that we all were in town, was at a place called The Afghan Horseman. You walk in and you take off your shoes to eat at this restaurant, which was a little unsettling to me. But you sit on the floor with your bare feet and there’s not even a table, it’s a tray that they bring to you. We got to know each other quite well that first night — sitting barefoot on the floor eating Afghan food in our laps (laughs).”
Best Player film follows Quincy (Jerry Trainor), a thirty-something Chinese food delivery man by day and online video game master by night. Perfectly happy to live in a tricked-out basement in his parents’ home, Quincy’s world gets turned upside down when his parents decide to sell their house and move to Florida – without him.
