Little Mix Say They Will 'Twerk When They Want To Twerk' In Empowering Speech at Global Awards 2018

Little Mix Say They Will 'Twerk When They Want To Twerk' In Empowering Speech at Global Awards 2018

Little Mix are actual queens!

Not just for winning three awards last night at the 2018 Global Awards in London — for Best Song for “Power”, Best Group, and Best British Artist or Group — but for a passionate and empowering speech where they hit back at critics about how they dress.

“It’s obviously quite hard for women in the music industry – it’s also hard for girl groups,” Jade Thirlwall shared on stage. “As a girl band, and as women, we do face a lot of scrutiny all the time whether it’s for the way we look, how much thigh we get out, how we dance, what we sing about…”

She continued, “We just want to say that although one day we hope that does stop, right now we’re really not a**** what people think!”

“We are women, we’ll dress how we want to dress, if we want to do a twerk, we’ll do a twerk!” Jade added. “We will always encourage our fans, especially our female fans, to be themselves and do whatever they want to do with our music, so thank you very much!”

Little Mix Have Quadruple Date at BRIT Awards While Teasing New Music

Little Mix had a full table at the 2018 BRIT Awards last night — as all their boyfriends were there to support the band.

Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and Perrie Edwards all sat together with partners Harry James, Andre Gray, Jed Elliott, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain inside the event.

Alex was the only one who passed on the red carpet.

During the event, Little Mix also opened up about new music coming soon.

“This is the first time we’ve seen each other in three months,” they shared. “But in March we’re straight back in the studio. Then we’ll be writing, then promoting that album.”

Little Mix Are Learning to 'Love Ourselves More & More'

Little Mix Are Learning to 'Love Ourselves More & More'

Little Mix is opening up on fame and what it’s like to be “normal.”

In a recent interview, the girls – Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, and Perrie Edwards – spoke with The Guardian about what it’s like being a mega popular girl group in this day and age.

“We were thrown into this industry without a clue about what was about to hit us,” Jesy said. “It was just the worst thing ever. Strangers saying things about you that you didn’t even know about yourself. And you question yourself. But do you know what’s weird? I feel like now that people can sense we’ve stopped giving a sh–, we don’t really get it any more. I think it’s a really sad world that we live in, with social media, where people love to scrutinise girls and women. But we set a good example. We embrace who we are, we’re not perfect and we know that. But, I know if I have kids, I don’t want them to have phones.”

“We wake up some days and feel like the most fierce people ever,” added Perrie. “But some days we’ll be like: ‘Oh my God, I’m so ugly.’ I don’t think everyone is 100% comfortable in their own skin, but we’re learning to love ourselves more and more, and that’s what we represent in our music.”

About always being on the road, Jesy mentioned, “I got back from Europe and had to pack to go again. I was looking at all of my suitcases on my floor and burst out crying. I was like: ‘I can’t do this.’ Literally I nearly had a breakdown like, ‘I need help. This is too much. I just want to be home.’”
