Remember how the JJJ Book Club was gushing about the title of Marie Lu‘s “Prodigy”?

Well, USA Today was super lucky and got a first look at the cover and an excerpt!

June and Day are now off from “Los Angeles to Sin City in ‘Prodigy’ out in bookstores Jan. 29. The Elector Primo of the Republic has died, with his son assuming power over what’s left of the USA’s West Coast as it teeters on full-blown chaos. June and Day join up with Patriot rebels so they can rescue Day’s brother and head east for the Colonies. In order to help, though, the rebels want June and Day to kill the new Elector, who may be a step up from his dad,” the news site shares.

JJJ Book Club Pick For April: 'Grave Mercy' by Robin LaFevers

JJJ Book Club Pick For April: 'Grave Mercy' by Robin LaFevers

We thought we had it hard last month, but April was so much harder!

JJJ went through two stacks of books for our ultimate picks and the book we just could not put down is “Grave Mercy” by Robin LaFevers.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Escaping from the brutality of an arranged marriage, seventeen-year-old Ismae finds sanctuary at the convent of St. Mortain. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts — and a violent destiny

WHY WE READ IT TWICE: Being transported back into history is something that will always attract us. Learning about real historical figures (Anne of Brittany) when it’s not in an encyclopedia, in the midst of another story. We loved it. We also loved learning about the traditions, what was acceptable and the choices Ismae has to make.

“Grave Mercy” is out on shelves NOW, go get a copy!

HONORABLE MENTIONS: “The Springsweet” by Saundra Mitchell, “Immortal City” by Scott Speer, “Above” by Leah Bobet, “Glamour in Glass” by Mary Robinette Kowal, “Glimmer” by Phoebe Kitanidis, “The Nightworld” by Jack Blaine and “The Selection” by Keira Cass.

JJJ Book Club Pick for March: 'Illuminate' by Aimee Agresti

JJJ Book Club Pick for March: 'Illuminate' by Aimee Agresti

JJJ had the hardest time picking out the number one pick for our Book Club this month — all the books we read were so good!

But in the end, we had to shine some light on Aimee Agresti‘s “Illuminate.”

WHAT IS IS ABOUT? Haven Terra’s soul is in danger, but only she can save herself. Brainy, shy high school outcast Haven can’t believe her luck when she’s recruited for a prestigious internship at a historic hotel in Chicago, under the leadership of powerful and alluring Aurelia Brown, dashing Lucian Grove and their stunning but aloof staff of glamazons.

But just as she becomes seduced by their glitzy and mysterious world, Haven uncovers the evil agenda at the hotel: they’re devils in the business of buying souls. And hers is the most valuable of all: she’s an angel in training and the devils aim to turn her to their side. Helping her along the way: a mysterious book instructing her to believe in herself; and her budding friendship with soft-spoken classmate Lance, who has a secret of his own.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT? Such an enchanting book and we can’t wait to read more in the Gilded Wings series. While the cover reels you in (how could it not? It’s so pretty!), the words inside keep you reading. There’s angels, mystery, beauty…which all rolled up into one, makes it magical. Follow Aimee on Twitter @AimeeAgresti.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: “Me & Earl & The Dying Girl” by Jesse Andrews, “Dark Eyes” by William Richter, “Wonder Show” by Hannah Barnaby and “Slide” by Jill Hathaway.
