Joey King Says Selena Gomez Is Still An Inspiration To Her

Joey King Says Selena Gomez Is Still An Inspiration To Her

It’s been nine years since Joey King starred with Selena Gomez in Ramona and Beezus.

In a new interview with ET, the 19-year-old The Act actress opened up about still looking up to Selena in every way.

“From the time we worked together until now, I’ve always really looked up to her,” Joey shared. “I’m really proud of everything she’s done.”

“I think that everything she’s been doing lately with speaking out about mental health, I think it’s so beautiful and inspiring,” she adds.

“She just shows everyone every day that no matter what your Instagram follower count says, no matter how much you may or may not edit your pictures, no matter how many photo shoots you do, no matter what your life is like, it’s OK to not be OK.”

Joey continues, “I really love that she puts it out there for everyone to see. It’s very vulnerable for her. She’s a big inspiration to people, whether she realizes it or not.”

Joey King Dishes On When Or If a 'Kissing Booth' Sequel Is Happening

Joey King doesn’t know anything, and we mean anything, about a sequel for her Netflix movie, The Kissing Booth.

The movie, which was the #1 original film the streaming service put out in 2018, still has yet to be greenlit for a second film.

“Right now, we’re not really sure. [The cast] would love for that to happen, but everything is still up in the air. We’re still waiting on [Netflix],” Joey revealed to TV Guide during the Television Critics Association this week.

Um, what?! How could this movie NOT get a sequel?!

Get on it, Netflix!

Joey King and AnnaSophia Robb became BFFs while filming their new series The Act and now that they’ve wrapped production, they’re ready to promote the show!

The two actresses stepped out for a panel at Hulu’s portion of the 2019 Winter TCA Tour on Monday (February 11) in Pasadena, Calif.

Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder. She and AnnaSophia were joined at the panel by co-stars Patricia Arquette and Chloe Sevigny.

The first season of Hulu’s new anthology series is based on a true story and the show was created by Michelle Dean, the reporter who investigated the story and wrote the viral BuzzFeed article.

Joey King Speaks About Getting More Into Politics & Educating Herself on Issues

Joey King Speaks About Getting More Into Politics & Educating Herself on Issues

Joey King is on one of the covers of Teen Vogue‘s Young Hollywood class of 2019 issue!

Here’s what the 19-year-old The Kissing Booth star had to share with the mag…

On what she hopes to see around her more in Hollywood: “I’m a big people person. I love getting to know people before making any judgments, getting to know their story. I find that when I work a lot on sets, I meet the most interesting people. Not just people who are producers, directors, or cast. The crew is such a vital part of making anything happen, and so really getting to know those people and respecting those people is a huge thing that I want to see more. I want to see people respecting others around them, because we all have a job to do and each job is just as important as the next one.”

On speaking out about heavier topics: “Because I’m now 19, I’ve gotten a lot more into politics than I had been before. That’s because I was not yet of age and I found it really hard to educate myself on politics. I even had a hard time figuring out how to register to vote. And that’s OK to be able to say that it’s confusing to figure out. And it’s confusing and hard to figure out what issues you need to know about. So this year, I really dove into that and tried to educate myself as best as possible. Lately, I’ve been speaking out about human trafficking, the importance of voting, and I went on a march recently [while] shooting in Savannah, Georgia. My co-star AnnaSophia Robb [and I] went on a march to end human trafficking. It was just so inspirational to see all the people that came out to do that. When you have a platform like mine, and I’m lucky enough to have a vast amount of followers, I think I’m really proud to be able to say something that means something to me.”

On not always taking Instagram too seriously: “Something that I just love to do is just never take anything too seriously. Sometimes I post just the stupidest pictures of myself with a face mask, this close up, I call myself an egghead since I have no hair. I also think just not being afraid. Because so much of the time, you get mean comments from people. And that sh*t just rolls off my back. I don’t even notice them anymore. And so I post whatever the hell I wanna post.”

FYI: Joey is wearing a Christopher John Rodgers bustier top, Mulberry belt (worn as choker) on the cover and a Marc Jacobs dress and Miu Miu necklace in the image.
