Joshua Bassett has released the visual for his debut single “Common Sense“!

The 19-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star surprised fans with the music video on Tuesday (April 21).

“The director, Gus Black, and I wanted to make sure the ‘Common Sense’ music video mirrored the simplicity of the song,” Joshua said in a press release.

“We wanted to give it a dream-like feel, showing that state of limbo you feel when falling in love. Even when you know you shouldn’t be with someone, sometimes they still show up in your dreams; just beyond your grasp,” he added.

Joshua recently announced that he had signed a record deal and dished on why it took so long to release “Common Sense”.

Joshua Bassett Reveals What Stopped Him From Releasing 'Common Sense' Last Year

Joshua Bassett was ready to release his single “Common Sense” last November right before he signed a record deal!

The 19-year-old HSMTMTS actor and musician was stopped in his tracks when Warner expressed interest in signing him.

“It’s an interesting story that I haven’t told anyone. I was trying to release my song in November. I was ready to go. I had no label, I was like, ‘I’m just going to do it myself.’ So I recorded the song, I got it mixed, mastered, I got it all done. I got my friend to do the photo shoot,” Joshua explained on Build Series.

Joshua continued, “Then Warner came into the picture and we were like, ‘Maybe we don’t have to do this all right now.’ That pushed the release back a little bit while we figured that out. They came in at just the right time. It was pretty perfect. The team over there is incredible. It’s so nice to have a team I can trust with my career and music. They totally get it.”

Joshua Bassett had to convince Olivia Rodrigo to release “All I Want!”

The 19-year-old HSMTMTS star says that he was one of the first people Olivia showed the song to and revealed how she originally felt about the song.

“I was one of the first people to hear it. She showed her mom and then she showed me. And I remember her saying something like, ‘It’s terrible! I’m going to start from scratch!’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about? This is perfect! This is incredible!’ I was blown away,” Joshua said on Build Series.

He continued, “And of course, it’s like the number one song of the show and a massive hit! And I’m like, ‘Of course it’s a massive hit. I knew that from the time you played it.’ I can’t imagine a world where she was like, ‘Eh I’m going to start from scratch.’”

Joshua Bassett Teases Big Things In Store For 'HSMTMTS' Season 2!

Joshua Bassett is opening up about some of the things to come in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series!

The 19-year-old actor and singer did a virtual interview with Build Series to chat about his new single “Common Sense“.

To close out the interview, Joshua was of course asked if he was able to spill anything about HSMTMTS and he left us with a bit of a tease.

“I think it’s relatively public knowledge that we had started filming. We had a couple episodes in, and all I can say is every day on set was a pinch me moment,” he said. “It was just so exciting.”

“You know, the first season, we weren’t really sure what the show was. We had no idea what we’re doing, we’re all kind of figuring it out as we go. We filmed different versions. In the first episode, they had us do things a couple different ways, because they weren’t even sure how they were going to edit it together, or how it was going to look. We were still figuring out the pacing and the tone and all of that. While we did have fun, and it was very exciting, it was a lot of learning in the first season,” Joshua continued.

“Having the first season under your belt, knowing that it’s mostly well received, being able to go back and do a season two, in the groove, knowing what the show is, and even just the writers being able to know the show,” he added. “Now, the writers’ room is filled with people who are mega fans of the show which is just so awesome. So we’re able to take things to another level because we’re all in the groove. It’s just so exciting, and I think people are really going to love it.”

We cannot wait for season two of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series!!

Joshua Bassett Drops 'Common Sense' Two Weeks Early - Listen Now!

Joshua Bassett has officially released his first single!

The 19-year-old HSMTMTS star just dropped his new song “Common Sense,” which he wrote in a mall parking lot!

“‘Common Sense’ was one of those lightning-strike songs: the idea came to me seemingly prepackaged, while I was driving to an acting audition. I could barely keep up with it, spilling out the lyrics into my voice memo’s app. When I eventually parked the car that I was practically living out of at the mall across the street, I quickly whipped out my guitar and finished the song in 15 minutes,” Joshua explained.

He continued, “It felt truly magical. The song is pretty simple; you know someone’s bad news, yet you can’t help but love them anyway. I think everyone, of any age, can relate to that on some level. Love is love, no matter what ‘common sense’ tells you.”
