The cast of Legacies step out for the 2020 SCAD aTVfest on Saturday (February 29) in Atlanta, Ga.
Joining the stars of the series – Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Kaylee Bryant, Peyton Alex Smith, and Chris Lee – were the show’s creator and EP Julie Plec, as well as executice producer Brett Matthews.
At the festival, Julie opened up about one of the show’s upcoming episodes, which is set in film noir.
“Legacies is doing its first and maybe only film noir episode, which is born out of the brilliant mind of [executive producer] Brett Matthews, who actually studied noir in film school and is a huge fan of the genre and knows it intimately,” she told EW. “We just wanted to dive into a fantasy world we hadn’t done before.”
“It was just a genre that stuck with me for a long time,” Brett added. “Actually, we had the episode broken and we didn’t know conceptually what we wanted the world to be. There were a lot of ideas on the table. There was Western, there was steampunk, there was Victorian. Film noir just became the perfect storm of producible and fit the tone of the season and that particular episode.”
The Legacies film noir episode, titled, “There’s a Place Where the Lost Things Go,” will air on March 12th on The CW!

The actors were joined at the event by co-stars Tyler Blackburn, Michael Vlamis, and Lily Cowles, and executive producers Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, and Chris Hollier.
During the panel it was announced that original Roswell cast member Jason Behr will join the cast of The CW’s reboot series.
“We’re very excited that Jason will be joining us for a multi-episode arc. It’s only fitting that he’s playing a (currently top secret) character with deep ties to Roswell, New Mexico’s history. Working with him has already been such a special experience for all of us –– particularly when [Roswell co-star] Shiri Appleby was on set to direct him. I was such a huge fan of Roswell as a kid, so having their stamp of approval –– not to mention their expertise and advice –– has really meant the world to me, the cast and the crew,” Carina said in a statement.
It was also announced that Friday Night Lights‘ Gaius Charles will play Bronson, a local farmer with a strong moral compass that leads him to see the good in people –– and aliens –– in a time of great prejudice. Ultimately, his quest to protect those he loves pits him against forces far more powerful than he is.
Legacies is getting a new vampire!
Showrunner Julie Plec recently revealed the news, but clarified it will in fact be a younger vampire.
“We’re really excited about a new character that we’re introducing. We really want to bring in an old, old, old-world vampire,” she told TV Guide. “We made the rule for our school that the vampires who go to our school actually need to be teenagers… not hundreds of years [old] because then you get into some creepy math.”
“But we want to introduce a vampire who kind of got desiccated when he was 17 in maybe the 15th century and now wakes up in the 21st century and realizes that all the rules of being a vampire have changed and that he does not fit in into this very modern world,” Julie added.

After Hope’s (Danielle Rose Russell) season one finale twist in Legacies, what can we expect going forward in season two?
Director and writer Julie Plec recently spilled all to TV Guide:
On whether or not all traces of Hope are really gone: “There is hope, and there is an actual pitch for that, so your brain is in the right place, creatively.”
On whether Malivore is dead now or she just prevented him from rising: “That is the question, I think, that we’re left with at the end of the season, which is — technically if she had destroyed him, would she be destroyed in the process? Maybe not. So the fact that no one remembers her might mean that there’s still a blackness out there that is keeping her captive. And since we’ve already seen a glimpse of how s–ty that is, I hope that’s not the case.”
On Hope’s affect on the lives of everyone else: “That’s exactly what we can expect to see. What’s fun about it, and sad about it, is we’ll be able to realize just how much impact Hope had in these people’s lives without them even realizing what they’re missing. And just understanding that they all feel individually like there’s something that doesn’t feel right and that they’re struggling with this feeling of not being complete somehow. It just feels like such a universal experience, especially for teenagers. I’m looking forward to having each of those characters act out on that feeling.”

Danielle Panabaker is about to head behind the camera to direct her first ever episode of The Flash.
The actress, who plays Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost on the series, shared with fans that her husband, Hayes Robbins, got her roses for good luck.
“My husband bought me flowers as I’m about to direct my first episode of #TheFlash…Yet, all I can think about is the irony of him giving me roses on Bachelor Monday 😂,” she joked on Twitter.
Just moments after, Julie Plec, the showrunner behind The Vampire Diaries franchise, sent her a little advice for her first day.

Kai might actually be the next former Vampire Diaries character to pop up on Legacies!
In the first half of the debut season, fans have seen Zach Roerig, Steven R. McQueen and even Jodi Lyn O’Keefe pop up on the show, and showrunner Julie Plec revealed that she does have plans for Kai, played by Chris Wood, to return someday.

“I have big plans for [Kai's return] in my head,” she dished to TV Guide in a recent interview.
However, while she has the plans, don’t get your hopes up too high to see them happen.
She added, “Even if they never make it to the screen, I have massive plans.”
Still, we’d like to know what these plans entail.
Legacies will return in late January on The CW.

“I wanted to make sure there was a reason to reboot it, and that it felt very grounded in 2018 and what we are dealing with presently, because the original show is available on Hulu and it’s really great,” she said, via THR. “There wasn’t a reason to update it unless we made it really current, and I think one of the important things I wanted to do was … take Liz Parker back to Liz Ortecho, and create a show with a Latina lead and a really diverse cast.”
