'13 Reasons Why' Cast Really Bonded With Each Other While Filming

'13 Reasons Why' Cast Really Bonded With Each Other While Filming

Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why is a realistic and emotionally heavy show.

Since it’s debut on the streaming service late last month, the series has become insanely popular and everyone (including us) is obsessed with the cast — and their bond with each other is giving us feels.

Justin Prentice spoke with HuffPo about their bond and how they all became family while filming.

“We all became really close through this process. We all became brothers and sisters,” he says. “We had to be there for each other, to comfort one another and to talk through things.”

Justin adds, “I think, because of those relationships and that rapport, because of all the trust we had for one another, these really hard scenes were a lot easier than they otherwise would have been.”

“They were still very difficult, but because of the level of trust that we all built with each other, I think they’re going to turn out really really well.”

Would Bryce Get Away With Everything In a Potential '13 Reasons Why' Season Two? Justin Prentice Says...

Would Bryce Get Away With Everything In a Potential '13 Reasons Why' Season Two? Justin Prentice Says...

13 Reasons Why‘s Bryce Walker will go down in history as one of the most hated characters ever, and actor Justin Prentice knows exactly why.

“[He's] a person we all kinda know and is potentially in our high schools,” he says, adding that “he seems like a preppy, entitled douchebag a little bit, but yeah there aren’t too many indicators of him being capable of what he ends up doing.”

Justin continues, “In real life, in these high schools… they are just normal people oftentimes who feel entitled and they haven’t been taught to respect women.”

With talk of a season two of the Netflix series blowing up everyone’s computers, Justin admits he wouldn’t mind if there was one.

“I would love to have a second season,” he shared. “I myself want to see what happens to all these characters. I’m just as invested as everyone else.”

So, what would life be like for Bryce in season two? “It could possibly head [in] a Brock Turner route where we see the parents get involved and then you can kind of pair up and you’re like ‘oh, Bryce is very much the way he is because of his father.’”

“Of course you don’t want Bryce to get away…but at the same time, you know, being from a privileged, wealthy, powerful family, would that in any way manifest itself to protect him? Which would suck, but also is realistic in today’s society.”

'13 Reasons Why' Star Justin Prentice Reveals Own Struggles With Bullying

'13 Reasons Why' Star Justin Prentice Reveals Own Struggles With Bullying

You probably really hate Bryce from 13 Reasons Why, and Justin Prentice (who plays him) totally gets it.

The Netflix series tackles bullying, online and face to face, in a serious matter.

“I think this series does a great job of showing the many facets of bullying, and how a simple, ‘Hey, back off,’ doesn’t always work,” Justin shared. “Especially in the world of cyber-bullying, once something’s out there, even if you confront the issue, it’s still out there.”

Justin isn’t a stranger to bullying, in fact, he was a victim himself.

“I was on a basketball team as a kid, and there were two twins who were a little older and a little bigger than I was, and there was some bullying going on there. I was a late bloomer, so I was a little smaller in stature,” he explains. “I would talk to my parents about it, which was great … and they were like — this is the South, so they’re like, ‘Just stand up to ‘em! Tell ‘em you’re going to knock their teeth in, then you won’t have a problem anymore.’”

“I did that,” he admits, “And it worked, but that doesn’t always work in real life.”

Justin‘s proud of the series he worked on.

“It starts the dialogue and the conversation, so people know that all of their actions have consequences, and people need to think through what they’re actually doing and if it’s going to affect someone negatively.”

13 Reasons Why is streaming now on Netflix.
