Katy Perry shines in silver at the Disney ABC Television Group Hosts TCA Winter Press Tour 2018 party on Monday night (January 8) in Pasadena, Calif.
The singer hit up the American Idol panel with fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, as well as host Ryan Seacrest to chat about the rebooted reality program.
Here’s everything you need to know about it:
What days will it air?
American Idol will return on March 11, airing both Sunday and Monday — up until the all-athletes season of DWTS premieres on April 30th. It will go down to just one day then — Sunday. The two-night finale will air on May 20th and 21st.
No more bad auditions
Showrunner Trish Kinane shared that the new ABC version will nix all bad auditions.
“It doesn’t feel comfortable to put borderline unstable people up on stage and laugh at them,” she shares. “I think that people once thought that the judges saw everyone, and now you know there’s a line of producers who screen before them…We want the humor, but we don’t want the exploitation.”
Seeking a star:
Katy is passionate about finding a star from the program: “Literally, we are wasting our time if we do not find a star. You know, America doesn’t need another star. They need, like, a real legit American Idol.”
She adds, “It’s a crowded place, and I take it really seriously, sometimes to my detriment. But I’m very cut-and-dry and get straight to the point, but I think that is our purpose.”
