Kherington Payne keeps it cute in a black jumper as she arrives at the premiere of Whip It held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Tuesday night (September 29).
The 19-year-old dancer recently caught up with San Francisco Chronicle about her debut role as Alice in Fame.
Kherington shared, “The fact that we both are obsessive about dance, our life is all about dance, and we’re so focused on what we want in life and what our dreams are – we’re the same in that way, but our personalities are very different. Alice is the kind of girl everyone envies; she’s got that popular-girl vibe to her, and that’s definitely not me. I don’t think I would have done well in the performing arts school. Maybe it would have been nice to try it, but I really liked going to a public school. I liked having my school life and my dance life separate from each other.”
Kherington Payne keeps close to on-screen love interest Walter Perez as they attend a screening of their new flick, Fame, held at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on Thursday night (September 24).
The 19-year-old emerging starlet stars as Alice in the flick, which hits theaters TODAY!
The L.A. Times praised her dancing, which Kherington is known for. They said, “Modern dancer Kherington Payne is even more mesmerizing on the big screen than she was last year in So You Think You Can Dance. The director makes the most of that extraordinary body in motion with a stripped-down staging.”

Kherington Payne lets her legs do the talking in this new pic from Elle magazine.
The 19-year-old dancer/actress is about to hit the big screen this Friday in Fame, the 2009 telling of ten students attending a New York Performing Arts high school. Kherington dished to the mag about how she won the role, her love for Twilight and director Kevin Tancharoen‘s love for her. Check it:
On her love for all things Twilight: “Whenever we have girls’ nights, it’s like, ‘Okay, put Twilight in.’ We just love how [Edward] acts toward [Bella]. My guy friends are like, ‘You’d hate it if a boy was that controlling,’ and we’re like, ‘We wouldn’t!’ He’s just so hot.”
On how she won the role of dancer Alice: The filmmakers figured, She can dance; let’s see if she can act. This agency that I wasn’t even signed with was like, ‘We know you’re not with us, but we want to send you on this audition.’ I was like, Crazy!”
Kevin Tancharoen on Kherington’s camera presence: “Her presence transfixed the camera. We didn’t want to go the Flashdance or Save the Last Dance route and cast ‘stunt doubles’ for any of the talent, where you cut to the close-up and it’s the actor, but cut to the wide shot and you’ve got a double. I was not going to let up on the dance ability, and she came in as a natural actress. She was the last person we saw—and we saw thousands.”

The 19-year-old dancer stars as Alice in the upcoming musical drama. Fame follows students of the New York Academy of Performing Arts as they try to balance both school and their craft.
Kherington recently dished to MLive.com about her character, saying, “[Alice is] the kind of girl who has everything. She’s not your regular, snooty, rich girl. She works really hard. She’s a really focused girl.”

Birthday boy Asher Book takes a big bite out of a cupcake from Crumb Bake Shop at the 2009 VH1 Divas after party held at One Hanson Place in NYC on Thursday night (September 17).
Joined by Fame costars Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Kherington Payne, Walter Perez and Naturi Naughton, Asher turned 21 at the celebration.
