Meryl Davis Has 'Closed' The Chapter on Any Future Ice Dance Competition

Meryl Davis wows in a lace red dress at the Women’s Sports Foundation’s 38th Annual Salute To Women in Sports Awards Gala on Wednesday night (October 18) in New York City.

The champion ice dancer, who showed off her gorgeous engagement ring, was joined by gymnasts Laurie Hernandez, Nastia Liukin and Gabby Douglas.

Earlier this month, she and partner Charlie White confirmed again that they won’t be returning to competition.

“I think it’s pretty closed,” Meryl said. “We’re not at home, eating bonbons, just figuring out what to do.”

Charlie adds that the two are working as show skaters now and “that’s how we spend most of our time. It’s travelling…It’s incredible to take our sport and turn it into art.”

“Our culture involved music in Spanish, hilarious dancing, and incredible food,” she wrote for PopSugar. “From Marc Anthony to El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, we would sing their songs as loud as we could and dance as much as we wanted.”

“Growing up with music in the house inspired me to express myself through my gymnastics floor routines and eventually on Dancing With the Stars,” she continued.

“Grounded in my culture, I found the true meaning of courage and determination, which guided my way through the sport of gymnastics. These skills helped light my path to the Olympics and inspire little girls watching me to try something new.”

“The inspo is really based on me and the ’90s,” Jordyn says.

And, while the traditional Addition Elle customer is a bit more mature, “I’m younger and more fun, so together we [Ashley Graham and I] made something that fit both of our demographics.”

Later on, Jordyn is also pictured at OK! Magazine’s 2017 Fall Fashion Week party with Gotham star Camren Bicondova and Laurie Hernandez.

Laurie Hernandez Gives Her Best Advice For Balancing Sports & Schoolwork

Laurie Hernandez Gives Her Best Advice For Balancing Sports & Schoolwork

Laurie Hernandez has been balancing gymnastics with schoolwork her entire life, and in a new interview she gets candid about how she manages to succeed in both of these realms.

“My number one advice would be get off your phone,” the 17-year-old gymnast told Teen Vogue.

“And that goes for myself, as well. Phones — they’re really progressing these days, it’s like ‘oh, I’m just gonna go on Instagram for five minutes,’ and then two hours pass by and you realize you’re still scrolling through social media.”

“That can take a lot of time up and you could be studying during that time,” Laurie continued, “so my advice would be to put the phone down and make sure you have your priorities set.”

The Olympic medalist appearing on TV shows (and, you know, winning Dancing With the Stars) ever since her Olympic run — so if anyone knows how to multitask it’s her.

Laurie Hernandez Talks How She Deals With 'Really Harsh' Trolls on Social Media

Laurie Hernandez Talks How She Deals With 'Really Harsh' Trolls on Social Media

Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez may be a gold medalist, but she still has to deal with trolls on social media.

“Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, they can be really harsh places,” the 17-year-old said in a new interview. “People feel some sense of empowerment, whether good or bad, when they are behind a screen and a username.”

“I’m always on social media, of course,” she continued to People, “so I’ve learned to ignore the online trolls in the comments, because I’ve realized that if you met that person in real life, they would never say that to your face. And if someone is mean, I’m like, ‘Well what are you going to do about it? You’re behind a screen!’”

Laurie also revealed that body-shaming “happens in sports,” but that her teammates help her to get through it.

She definitely isn’t alone. Her teammate Aly Raisman spoke out about staying positive and bullying earlier this summer.
