Where is Candice King's Caroline in The CW's 'Legacies?'

Where is Candice King's Caroline in The CW's 'Legacies?'

The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies won’t be featuring Caroline Forbes when the show kicks off, so how will the new series explain her absence?

So far, Vampire DiariesMatt Davis, Steven R. McQueen, and Zach Roerig, are all set to reprise their roles, but not Candice King.

“We’re going to hear her and feel free a lot,” showrunner Julie Plec told EW. “I don’t know when we’ll see her. I, of course, would like to see her anytime. The door is open. But the girls are dealing with the fact that their mother, who has raised them, is a little absentee lately.”

So, what’s Caroline been up to since saying farewell to Klaus? “They believe she’s off on recruiting missions,” Julie shared about Caroline’s twin daughters. “Alaric knows she’s actually off doing other things that have to do with the long-term survival of their daughters. So the mystery of, where is Caroline, why isn’t she coming home for their birthday, that kind of thing is gonna be part of our story in the hopes that one day we’ll be able to walk to have her walk through the doors as well.”

“A lot of the supernatural beings that we’ll be opening our doors to are things you never would have seen on The Vampire Diaries,” Julie said as star Danielle Rose Russell added, “In our second episode, we have a very exciting new creature with a lot of CGI.”

Legacies premieres on October 25 on The CW.

'Legacies' Won't Feature Relationships & Romances Like 'Vampire Diaries' & 'The Originals' Did

'Legacies' Won't Feature Relationships & Romances Like 'Vampire Diaries' & 'The Originals' Did

Not only will the format of Legacies be different, but the romances will as well.

Speaking with TV Guide, Julie Plec that the romances will also be different.

The new show is planning on avoiding all the problematic nature of some of the relationships that happened on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

“When I read ‘The Vampire Diaries’ [book] and I thought, ‘Well, God, that’s weird. Stefan’s technically been on this Earth for, like, 162 years and Elena’s 17,’ and I said I’m just going to let it go, because Edward was older,” she shared.

“And, like, that was literally, like, people seem cool with Edward and Bella [from Twilight], so they’re going to be cool with this and that’s just the end of it, and I’m going to, like, just put my head down and power through.”

However, it’s 2018 now and times and narratives have changed.

“There is something deeply romantic in that gothic and harlequin romance kind of way, and deeply inappropriate if you look at it through another lens,” Julie added. “There just is only one lens in my opinion in this moment, and I’m cool with that.”

She continues, “It’s actually…we’ve tried to be a little bit just socially responsible for the moment. It also opened doors for us to tell vampire stories that we haven’t actually told yet. So it’s fun.”

Legacies will debut on October 25th on The CW.

'Legacies' Showrunner Reveals The Format Will Be Different From 'Originals' & 'Vampire Diaries'

Danielle Rose Russell looks like she’s pondering life in this brand new still from her new series, Legacies.

During the Summer TCA Press Tour, the 18-year-old actress joined co-star Matt Davis and showrunner Julie Plec to talk about the new series and reveal that it will be unlike The Originals and The Vampire Diaries was in format.

Instead, Legacies will have a “monster of the week” format.

“There is definitely an overall big bad that we slowly hint at, but we’re doing something on this particular series that I have never done before, which is embracing, not always but often, a monster of the week,” Julie shared.

Danielle added, “It’s something we’ve been so, so excited talking about. We’re like, ‘This is what’s going to make our show different. This is what’s going to make our show so good!’”

Another thing discussed were Caroline and Alaric’s twins, Lizzie and Josie, who are Gemini witches and that makes them a target.

Caroline won’t be appearing in every episode, however, she will be on a mysterious mission regarding the “long term survival of [her] daughters.”

Legacies premieres in October on The CW.

The Mikaelsons Could Pop Up on 'Originals' Spinoff Series 'Legacies'

The Mikaelsons Could Pop Up on 'Originals' Spinoff Series 'Legacies'

Don’t say goodbye to the Mikaelson family forever – because there’s a chance that they may pop up on Legacies.

Showrunner Julie Plec revealed that fans could possibly see Freya, Rebekah, Kol, and even Keelin and Marcel pop up on the new series.

“What I like to say, and I mean it wholeheartedly, is that the door is always open,” she told Variety. “If anybody wants to come, I will find a way to make that work.”

Julie adds, “I would love to see Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) come teach some classes, or Auntie Freya (Riley Voelkel) show up for the parent-teacher weekend.”

“Rebekah (Claire Holt) sneaking Hope out of school for a fun getaway — all that stuff is stuff I would love to see so it’s really just a matter of, at what point do these guys feel like paying homage to these characters and revisiting a character that they’ve already put to bed.”

“That might take some time, but maybe we’ll see them eventually.”

Legacies is set to premiere this fall on The CW.
