“I met this girl that I really liked one night and I didn’t want to mess it up,” Tony admitted to Teen Vogue about the inspiration for the track. “I’ve never been superstitious until I met her but all of sudden I found myself so aware of everything.”
He adds about working with Malcolm, “We’re like brothers and that makes it so easy for us to push each other to make even better music together. We came into the studio with [this] concept and the song just came to life.”
“We’ve always been best friends and that will never change, so working together always gets better with every song,” Malcolm added.
“‘Hands Off My Heart’ and ‘Places You Go’ tell a two-part story of surrender and the dangers that ensue,” they shared. “It was such a fun challenge unlocking how to fuse the two songs and storylines together. Music has always taken us on adventures and we wanted to take our fans on one.”

The guys – Tony Oller and Malcolm Kelley – have been teasing their brand new single “Hands Off My Heart/ Places You Go,” which officially drops on March 11.
“It’s a song about being in a relationship with a girl,” Malcolm explained during a fan Q&A. “Everything’s going swell…but then it comes to a breaking point where you want to separate. That frustration about still having love for this girl, but not being with her.”
The 23-year-old half of MKTO joined Tony Oller during their visit to the Symbio Zoo for a little downtime before some press interviews after arriving in Australia the day before on Saturday afternoon (August 1).
