Mandy Teefey took to Instagram on Tuesday (July 24) to share a sweet throwback photo and message to the 25-year-old singer after news broke about her reported drug overdose.

“This was exactly 10 yrs ago at S, Sweet 16. @ddlovato we love you,” Mandy writes. “The world is a better place because of these infectious smiles. My heart hurts.”

The 13 Reasons Why producer recently opened up about the qualities she thinks a guy should have if he wants to date Selena!

“A sense of humor,” she told People, adding that it would also be important for the guy to be “family-oriented” and “someone who truly understands the life that she lives.”

As for the constant speculation about Selena‘s love life, Mandy says she takes the gossip with a “grain of salt.”

When sometime tells her they hear Selena‘s got a new beau, she jokingly replies, “Oh wow, is it working out?”

“I empathize with her a lot because could you imagine trying to find someone who isn’t in this business that understands, they’re gonna read she’s cheating every five minutes on them? That’s a special person. I want them to care about her and not the fame and not trying to sell things or become something,” Mandy explained.

Rumors started swirling that the two might have had a falling out about Selena‘s relationship with Justin, which may have led to Mandy‘s hospitalization, though People reported that that wasn’t the case.

Now, Mandy is revealing that she didn’t speak to Justin while Selena had her kidney transplant last summer. In fact, they haven’t talked or texted in “years,” and she told Gossip Cop that she is “not happy” with the couple’s latest reunion.

“Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy,” Mandy explained. “Every mother and daughter has disagreements. She is 25 years old and knows what is at stake with her health. I do not control her the way it has been portrayed. Selena is an adult and can make her own choices.”

Fans noticed as of Tuesday (December 19) that the “Wolves” singer and her mother are not following each other on Instagram, suggesting that the two might have had a falling out.

The discovery comes just after reports first surfaced earlier in the week suggesting the two had a fight about Selena‘s relationship with Justin Bieber, which may have led to Mandy‘s recent hospitalization, although a source tells People that was not the reason, but rather that this is “a stressful time.”

Mandy voluntarily went to the hospital to be examined last week, but rumors soon swirled suggesting it was because of an argument she had with Selena over her relationship with Justin Bieber are not true, reports People.

“It’s been a stressful time for Mandy and she made the decision herself to go to the hospital and make sure everything was okay. This wasn’t just about Justin,” a source tells People, adding “It’s true her family doesn’t approve of Justin, but this wasn’t just over a fight about him.”

This is also a sensitive time of the year: Mandy recently shared an emotional Instagram post on Monday (December 18), in remembrance of Scarlett, the daughter she sadly lost to a miscarriage in 2011.

“Thank you to all the fans who honored our Scarlett yesterday. Dec. 17th will never be the same, but we decide to celebrate her by writing her letters on red balloons and releasing them.”

The 24-year-old superstar’s mom, who produced 13 Reasons Why with her, showed her support for the budding relationship on her Instagram.

After The Weeknd shared a photo posing with Selena on the famed steps at the Met Gala, Mandy was sure to leave a sweet comment.
