Gymnast Louis Smith Didn't Snub Teammate Max Whitlock During Rio Olympics

Max Whitlock shows off one of his gold medals outside Media City on Thursday (August 25) in Manchester, England.

The 23-year-old Team GB gymnast brought home three medals — two gold and one bronze — from the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

Teammate Louis Smith was also a guest on ITV’s This Morning, where he explained that he didn’t snub Max after the pommel horse competition, where Louis picked up the silver medal.

“To know you hadn’t got that gold medal I needed a minute to let that sink in. I just needed a moment,” Louis explained. “The cameras filmed me and then went back to the Russian [gymnast]. During this time I went over to Max’s coach and said ‘Congratulations’ then I saw Max and gave him a big hug. I said well done to some of the other guys then I went back to my seat.”

He continued, “The cameras had gone back to the Russian to film their routine then the cameras came back down and it looked like I hadn’t moved, that I’d just ignored Max. Then the Russian had finished and the cameras came back down and it looked like I hadn’t actually moved places and stayed there the whole time and ignored Max, which wasn’t the case.”
