After five empowering seasons, our trio is on the brink of defining who they really are and how best to leave their mark on the world. Their futures are bright, and their love and support for each other will never change.”
Cue the sad tears… The Bold Type is coming to an end!
Freeform has revealed that the series will be back for it’s fifth and final season.
“The Bold Type is a brand-defining show for Freeform. It’s been refreshing, relatable and fun to watch Kat, Jane and Sutton lean on their friendship to navigate the complexities of modern life,” Tara Duncan, president of Freeform, said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite shows, and I am proud that we are giving the series the sendoff Wendy, the incredible cast and crew, and the beloved fans all deserve.”
“It has been a joy to watch Kat, Jane and Sutton live out their lives on screen over the last four seasons and become an inspiration for so many young women along the way,” Universal Television president Erin Underhill added. “This show will always hold a special place in my heart for its authenticity and ability to provoke meaningful conversations with each episode. I want to thank Wendy Straker Hauser and all the writers for telling these amazing stories that will undoubtedly live beyond the pages of Scarlet Magazine.”
The Bold Type stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy, Stephen Conrad Moore and Melora Hardin, and “reveals a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for the global women’s magazine, ‘Scarlet.’ The rising generation of Scarlet women leans on one another as they find their own voices in a sea of intimidating leaders. Together they explore sexuality, identity, love and fashion.”
The series will return with it’s farewell episodes later this year, with Nikohl Boosheri returning as Adena El-Amin for a recurring spot later in the season.
The Unbreakable Boy is based off of the book “The Unbreakable Boy: A Father’s Fear, a Son’s Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love” by Scott M. LeRette, and “centers around Austin (Laval), born with both a rare brittle-bone disease and autism. What makes Austin truly unique is his joyous, funny, life-affirming worldview that transforms and unites everyone around him – especially his dad, Scott (Levi), who changes his life as he comes to see Austin not as the symbol of something broken, but the triumph of an indestructible spirit.”
Jon Gunn will direct the film, with a script he also wrote. Peter will also serve as a producer.
“Best friends make good times better and hard times easier. 💖 Tag your bestie below to let them know you appreciate them in your life☀️🌻 #nationalbestfriendday #bestfriend,” the Merrell Twins posted on Instagram.

The Bold Type is among many TV shows that had to halt production due to the Coronavirus.
Stars Meghann Fahy and Katie Stevens shared on Instagram that the hit Freeform show is on a hiatus.
“We danced we cried we had a party we got sent home from shooting @theboldtypetv early,” Meghann captioned a group selfie.
Good Trouble‘s Emma Bunton commented and confirmed that their show was also put on hold. “Girl same love youuuuu,” she wrote.
“My family ❤️ we were cut short because of covid19 but we drank we laughed and we cried a lot. Hope to see you all again soon, but for now, stay safe and stay healthy. To our crew, words could never express my love and gratitude for you all. à bientôt #TheBoldType,” Katie wrote with the same photo.
Some fans read Katie‘s post and thought that the show was canceled, so she wrote a note the next day clarifying what she said.
“Sorry for scaring everyone, should’ve specified. The studio and network are taking Covid-19 very seriously and as are our cast and crew,” she said. “Although we didn’t have anyone test positive, the decision was made to halt production right now for the safety of everyone. We are not cancelled.”
“It’s so hard because I can’t say much about why it’s emotional without ruining, but there are a lot of life changes going on for our characters,” Katie told EW about the midseason finale, titled “Stardust” and airing on March 12.
“I’ve actually known Chord for many years so it was really exciting that he was a part of the show, and you just kind of get to see where Jane comes from,” Katie said. “She has an also type-A brother who is a bit of perfectionist and you can see kind of how that plays into their relationship and also the dynamic between my brother and Ryan.”
Sam Page also opened up about how Richard and Sutton are doing with their wedding planning: “We’re progressing at a pretty quick pace and that pace comes back in discussion — How fast we’re moving, and are we moving to fast? Because their lives are changing so fast. Richard’s got a job in San Francisco that’s demanding more and more of his time to be there, but his relationship with Sutton is progressing toward a wedding, and her job is getting bigger and better all the time. So we’re kind of working on a clock there.”
