'Once Upon a Time' Casts 'Beyond' Star as 'Princess & The Frog's' Prince Naveen

'Once Upon a Time' Casts 'Beyond' Star as 'Princess & The Frog's' Prince Naveen

Looks like Mekia Cox was definitely talking about Naveen before — because the character has just been cast for Once Upon a Time!

Beyond‘s Jeff Pierre, who plays Jeff on the Freeform show, will be recurring as Prince Naveen on the ABC series, TVLine reports.

He’ll make his debut in the March 9th episode.

Naveen is described as a “fun-loving, freewheeling adventurer who cares little about the dangers of the world. At least, that’s how it appears.”

“In truth, his easy exterior hides a heart struggling with a tragic past – one that he is determined to make amends for, even if it means sacrificing everything he loves in the process…”

Once Upon a Time returns on Friday, March 2nd.

Once Upon a Time's Tiana Hints That Naveen Could Be Coming To The Show!

Mekia Cox is making our hearts extremely happy right now!

The Once Upon a Time actress revealed that Prince Naveen would finally be popping up on the ABC show later this season.

“Episode 12 will be another big Tiana episode,” Mekia shared with TV Guide this week at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

She adds, “You will get to see some old characters that you’ve already seen – Dr. Facilier comes back, so you’ll get to see a little more of him. You’ll also get to see a new character, that might be a little love interest for Tiana. And he might be a familiar face from the Princess and the Frog movie.”

While Mekia didn’t say it was Naveen, we’re definitely hoping it is. Or Ray, or even Louis. But definitely NOT Lawrence!

Here’s hoping that Tiana’s BFF Lottie pops up too.

Once Upon a Time will return in March.

Mekia Cox Clears Up 'Princess & The Frog' Questions on 'Once Upon A Time'

Mekia Cox Clears Up 'Princess & The Frog' Questions on 'Once Upon A Time'

Earlier this summer, we were all wondering about how Tiana’s story (from The Princess and the Frog) would fit into Once Upon a Time this season, and we didn’t get a great answer.

“We’re not redoing the movie, but we’re taking it as a jumping off point,” executive producer Adam Horowitz shared at the time. “We have a OUAT spin.”

However, Mekia Cox, who plays Tiana/Sabine in the upcoming season, is making it all good again for us.

“When I first auditioned, I asked that same question, and they said that they would like to meld The Princess and the Frog from Disney’s Princess and the Frog with the real Princess and the Frog stories, so they’re taking bits and pieces of it all,” she shared with EW.

She adds, “I mean, her name is Tiana, and they have bits of the bayou and all of that in there, but then they’re also taking pieces from other portions of the actual fairy tale, the Princess and the Frog story.”

Okay, so our Princess and the Frog hearts are a lot better now. Especially since we know that cooking is still part of her.

“Her main thing is she has her eyes on this goal of hers, which is cooking,” Mekia says. “She has always loved cooking, and you go back and you see how she gained this entrepreneurial spirit that she has; and that is brought into the real world.”

Once Upon a Time premieres Friday, October 6th on ABC.

Tiana Has A Mission Story in 'Once Upon A Time' Season 7

Tiana Has A Mission Story in 'Once Upon A Time' Season 7

Princess Tiana has definitely changed from the animated character who you’ve all been acquainted with.

In Once Upon a Time, she’s coming back as a strong leader with a big mission — to restore freedom to her people.

Creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis tell TVLine that Tiana (played by Mekia Cox) will make her debut in the seasons third episode called “The Garden of Forking Paths”.

“We meet Tiana in a fairy tale realm in turmoil,” they shared. “She’s a princess with a mission”

They add that “Tiana’s most defining characteristic is her strength. She’s been through a lot when we meet her, but she never wavers even when doubting oneself would seem to be the most logical, and safe, course of action.”

“She has her share of enemies, but that goes with the territory when one is fighting for a just cause.”

Once Upon a Time returns on Friday, October 6th @ 8PM ET/PT on ABC.

'Once Upon A Time' Is Putting a Much Different Spin on Princess Tiana For the New Season

'Once Upon A Time' Is Putting a Much Different Spin on Princess Tiana For the New Season

Remember how in The Princess and the Frog, Tiana was a waitress who was working towards saving money to buy her own restaurant?

Well, all that is changing when it comes to Once Upon A Time‘s new season.

It looks like Tiana (Mekia Cox) will be called Sabine, at least that’s her cursed counterpart’s name, and get a flashback treatment according to EW.

“We’re not redoing the movie, but we’re taking it as a jumping off point,” executive producer Adam Horowitz said. “We have a OUAT spin.”

Also, Tiana’s mom Eudora, who will be played by Riverdale‘s Robin Givens, is actually a noblewoman. Um, don’t remember that from the movie either.

Eudora is described as “formerly wealthy, now facing financial disaster, she handles the transition with grace and inner moral strength.”

As a site who loves everything about The Princess and The Frog movie, we’re not sure if we’re going to love this. We’ll try, but no promises.
