Disney's Live Action 'Mulan' Pushed Back To August Release

Disney's Live Action 'Mulan' Pushed Back To August Release

Fans are going to have to wait even longer for the live action version of Mulan!

It was just announced that the film has been pushed back once more to August 21st, Deadline reports.

The film was previously pushed to July 24th, after being indefinitely moved from it’s original March release due to the pandemic.

“While the pandemic has changed our release plans for Mulan and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require, it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance. Director Niki Caro and our cast and crew have created a beautiful, epic, and moving film that is everything the cinematic experience should be, and that’s where we believe it belongs – on the world stage and the big screen for audiences around the globe to enjoy together,” Alan Horn, Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, and Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios, said in a joint statement.

While some of Disney’s releases have been moved to Disney+, the company really wants Mulan to be released in theaters.

Mulan won’t be hitting theaters later this month as scheduled.

Disney just announced that due to the coronavirus outbreak, the March 27th debut of the film has been indefinitely pushed back.

The studio does not yet have a release date for the movie but is looking at other dates in 2020, according to Deadline.

The announcement comes just moments after the cast premiered the film in London, where actress Yifei Liu and director Niki Caro joined the film’s cast on the red carpet.

It was also recently announced that The New Mutants and horror flick Antlers would be pushed back.

Christina Aguilera Releases New Song 'Loyal Brave True' From Live Action 'Mulan', 22 Years After 'Reflection'

Christina Aguilera is back with an original song for the live action Mulan soundtrack – “Loyal Brave True“!

The new track comes 22 years after she released “Reflection” from the original animated version.

“The film Mulan and the song ‘Reflection’ coincided with getting me my first record deal,” Christina said of the new song. “It’s amazing to come back to such an incredible movie that’s full of power and meaning, and that meaning holds the test of time: staying true to yourself, being who you are, and teaching how to be fearless. My new song, ‘Loyal Brave True,’ represents the fine balance between vulnerability and strength.”

In addition to “Loyal Brave True”, Christina will also release a new version of “Reflection”. Both songs will be available on the film’s soundtrack, out March 25th, just two days before the movie hits theaters.

Here's Why These 2 Prominent Characters Are Not In The Live Action 'Mulan'

Here's Why These 2 Prominent Characters Are Not In The Live Action 'Mulan'

The live action adaptation of Mulan is coming out so soon and there won’t be two characters from the original.

The little dragon Mushu, and Li Shang, Mulan’s love interest, have been left out of the new movie.

Mushu has been taken out because although he was “very popular in the U.S., the Chinese hated it. This kind of miniature dragon trivialized their culture,” USC professor Stanley Rosen explained to THR.

Li Shang, however, has been split into two different characters. In the original, he was the captain who then became the love interest of Mulan.

“We split Li Shang into two characters. One became Commander Tung (Donnie Yen) who serves as her surrogate father and mentor in the course of the movie. The other is Honghui (Yoson An) who is [Mulan’s] equal in the squad,” producer Jason Reed said in an interview with Collider.

“I think particularly in the time of the #MeToo movement, having a commanding officer that is also the sexual love interest was very uncomfortable and we didn’t think it was appropriate,” he added.

The actress and other cast and crew members opened up in a behind-the-scenes video released this week.

“I loved creating the stunt sequences in the film,” director Niki Caro said. “The action is explosive.”

“I’ve had three months of training process,” Liu shared. “It’s quite challenging — six or seven hours a day.”

“I’ve never ever had a six-pack in my life and I’m starting to see one come through,” actor Yoson An chimed in.

“I can do more push-ups!” Liu added.

Niki said about Liu Yifei, “She’s everything an action movie hero should be, particularly when kicking ass with a sword.”

The upcoming live action film was given a PG-13 rating from the The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

According to THR, the reasoning the rating is “sequences of violence.”
