Nathan Chen is Already Looking Forward To The 2022 Winter Olympics

Nathan Chen might not have picked up that gold medal the entire world was hoping for at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, but he’s still grateful for the experience.

Speaking with People, the reigning US National Champ opened up about his experience at the games and what’s next on his radar.

“I felt accomplished despite the short programs,” he shared. “And part of me was disappointed because I had laid down such a great long program and also such a terrible short program, they [wouldn’t] really match up and I [wouldn’t] be able to make that podium spot.”

However, he was happy he got to redeem himself, and for all the support along the way.

“I was just glad that at least I ended it like that,” Nathan adds. “All these notable figures were shouting me out, and a lot before even my long program, which to some degree even means more just knowing that I did two really bad performances and yet people still believe in me, they still support me, and having that support was really nice.”

“[I was] kind of glad people realize that I’m human, I make mistakes.”

And yes, the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are in his sights — but first, a little break.

“I’m excited to get back [to the US], try and watch some [basketball] games,” he says. “Excited to go back to the beach back in California and just relax a little bit.”

Are Olympic Figure Skaters Karen Chen & Nathan Chen Related?

Nathan Chen and Karen Chen are both on the Team USA Figure Skating Team this year — and many Olympic watchers might think they’re related, but they’re not.

They’re not brother and sister, not even cousins. They’re just two figure skaters who happen to share a fairly common last name.

“We come from a similar background and both our parents went through a lot to give us the opportunity to skate and help us be successful,” Nathan shared in an interview.

He adds, “I think what Karen and I represent is everything that our parents stand for and how they raised us.”

Karen will make her Olympic debut TONIGHT!

Nathan Chen Thanks Teammates & Fans For Undying Support at Olympics 2018

Nathan Chen didn’t have the best results at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics this month.

Although, we think he did phenomenal in coming back so strong in his free program that no one was able to actually catch him until gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu took the ice, Nathan admits that he didn’t have the best programs.

“These past two weeks have been the biggest emotional rollercoaster of my life,” Nathan broke his silence on Instagram this weekend. “I began this competition with the two worst short programs of my competitive career. I couldn’t believe what happened, and my confidence completely dissipated.”

But thanks to the fans and the love of his teammates, he got up.

“If not for the hundreds of messages of support from all of you I never would’ve been able to bounce back and lay down the long I did here,” he adds. “Truly thank you all so much for the support and love. #WeGetUp.”

Nathan also gave another shout out to his teammates, as he did leave with a bronze medal with the team event.

Nathan Chen Nails Six Quadruple Jumps at the Olympics!

Nathan Chen Nails Six Quadruple Jumps at the Olympics!

We are totally blown away by Nathan Chen!

The 18-year-old figure skater just made Olympic history by becoming the first person to land six quadruple jumps in a single routine.

Nathan, who has been facing some disappointing performances in PyeongChang, found himself in first place following the incredible feat.

The performance earned him a score of 215.08, which combined with his short program score of 82.27, gave him a total of 297.35.

While the competition is still ongoing, the score could be enough for him to take home the gold medal!

The men’s individual event is his final competitive appearance at the games, so it looks like Nathan is certainly making the most of his last time on the ice.

Good luck Nathan!

Nathan Chen Is Still Planning 4 to 5 Quads in His Free Skate at Olympics

Nathan Chen Is Still Planning 4 to 5 Quads in His Free Skate at Olympics

Nathan Chen got off to a rocky start at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in the men’s short program last night — but we know that anything can happen with the free skate tonight.

The 18-year-old figure skater recently spoke with Chicago Tribune and revealed that he actually still plans to do four to five quad jumps in his program.

“I think I will include the Lutz; however; the number will be between four and five,” he says. “I am capable of doing all of them, but I know Salchow, toe, flip and Lutz are the most comfortable at the moment, so I think that is where my mind is set.”

That’s his plan, anyways.

Nathan adds that, “come the day of competition, I will decide what specifically I want to do…I think [six quads] is a little too risky of a program now, so I don’t really feel as though that’s something I’m going try to set my mind to right now.”

We’ll be rooting on Nathan at JJJ!

Nathan Chen Gets Support From Fans, Team USA Teammates & Skating Greats After Shocking Olympic Short Program

Nathan Chen Gets Support From Fans, Team USA Teammates & Skating Greats After Shocking Olympic Short Program

Nathan Chen found himself in 16th place after the men’s short program at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics yesterday, following a shocking performance.

Skating after Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu, the reigning Olympic champion, Nathan struggled and fell on his opening quad lutz triple toe combo, before stumbling on his next quad-triple combination too.

“I honestly have never been in this position before, so I don’t really know exactly what to do,” the 18-year-old skater said after the event. “We’ll talk to the rest of my team and figure out what to do.”

He adds, “It just was rough. Nothing really clicked together. I did all the right stuff going into it. It should have been different.”

While he doesn’t have many answers right now, Nathan does have major support coming in all directions from fans, teammates and skating greats.

The Men’s Free Skate airs TONIGHT @ 8PM ET/PT on NBC.

Figure Skater Nathan Chen Has a Huge Crush on Emma Watson

Nathan Chen is really just like all of us — he has a massive crush on Emma Watson.

Speaking with TeenVogue, the 18-year-old figure skater opened up about his love for the former Harry Potter actress and activist, naming her as his fave celebrity ever and crush.

Nathan also picked her when asked which celeb he’d want to come watch him at the Olympics.

“I love Emma Watson. She’s amazing. Also I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter so that helps,” he shared.

While Nathan is a fave to medal at the men’s events, which start tonight, he says he’s already realized his dreams of being at the Olympics.

“I think just being there at the Olympics, really realizing that I fulfilled my dream of going to the Olympic games,” he says of the most exciting part. “…Just standing together as team USA and then seeing all the other athletes and just seeing everyone come together as one.”

Nathan has already picked up a bronze medal in the Figure Skating Team Event over the weekend.
