Niall Horan Doesn't Want To Write About Heartbreak Anymore

Niall Horan Doesn't Want To Write About Heartbreak Anymore

Niall Horan is looking in a new direction for his second album.

Last year, the 24-year-old musician dropped Flicker, which focused a lot on heartbreak.

“A lot of this album was driven from personal experiences and heartache and stuff like that,” Niall told Coup de Main magazine. “But I don’t have that at the moment…the album turned out to be a concept album because it was about one particular thing.”

This time around, he’s looking to write about anything and everything.

Niall says, “I think a lot more will just be going out and writing songs, and trying to write good songs, instead of being stuck on one particular concept.”

Sam Smith was the one who gave him the idea, too.

“I heard him saying in an interview he did recently that he feels weird singing these songs now that are on this album because he’s not heartbroken anymore,” he adds. “He’s singing about stuff that makes him sad, but he’s not sad anymore, so he does find it funny.”

Niall Horan Opens Up About Living With OCD

Niall Horan Opens Up About Living With OCD

Niall Horan revealed years ago that he had OCD, aka obsessive compulsive disorder, and in a recent interview, opened up about living with it.

The 24-year-old “Slow Hands” singer chatted with German magazine ZEIT LEO (via) about his ticks and how he handles it.

“I have mild obsessive compulsive disorder, that’s what doctors call it,” he shares. “That is, I feel like I have to do things in a certain way. For example, if I have a burger with chips on my plate, I always have to eat the chips first and only pick up the burger at the very end.”

Niall also revealed that he has certain ritual he goes through on stage before his concerts.

“I have one fixed sequence. I always have to sing in the same order, move and so on,” he adds. “I’ll basically do everything immediately, otherwise I’ll get nervous quickly. That’s why in school I learned to start studying for tests very early. Otherwise I’d be afraid of the pressure.”

Niall also admits that his “ticks” have caused him to have a hard time in the past, he’s accepted them for what they are.

“I live with them and they’re mine no matter what others think about it,” Niall says. “I’m just like — what the hell! Fortunately, I now have enough people around me who understand me.”
