Normani Is Recording Her Solo Album in New Orleans For This Important Reason

Normani is working hard on her debut solo album that we all can’t wait to hear, and blast as soon as it comes out.

The 21-year-old singer chose to record it in her hometown of New Orleans and in her new interview with L’Officiel, she opens up about why.

“The most important thing about coming out with this debut album is just representation and making sure that people get a sense of the city that I grew up in, New Orleans,” she says. “It made me and shaped me into the woman that I’ve become, morally, and my family is from here.”

Normani continues that “whis is really where my roots stem from and I am everything that the city makes up, so I definitely wouldn’t have chosen any other place to record and kind of [get] zen…because for this project, the sounds that I want to incorporate are heavily influenced by the city.”

She adds, “I flew the songwriters and the producers down and they’re having the time of their lives. I can’t wait for everybody else to hear it, and we have a few surprises, too.”

Normani had quite the eventful weekend!

Just after getting nominated for a Teen Choice Award, the 21-year-old “Love Lies” singer stepped out for the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards on Friday night (June 22) in Los Angeles.

There, she teamed up with Raven-Symone to present Janet Jackson with the Impact Award.

“Incredibly honored and excited to be presenting the RDMA Impact Award to @JanetJackson in a few,” Normani wrote on Twitter.

Just a few days later, Normani stepped out for the 2018 BET Awards Radio Remotes on Saturday (June 23) before walking the red carpet at the event, held at Microsoft Theater, on Sunday (June 24).

Normani Explains That This Isn't The Reason Fifth Harmony Took A Break

Normani Explains That This Isn't The Reason Fifth Harmony Took A Break

If you’re still worried that something big and horrible happened between Fifth Harmony that caused their break up, let us calm your fears.

Normani spoke to People about that theory, and it’s just not true.

“Honestly, nothing necessarily happened. It was kind of just a good time. It was the right time for us,” she shared. “It’s been six years, and we dedicated absolutely everything that we’ve had to the group. We recognized that we deserve to be our own people.”

Fifth Harmony announced their plans for a hiatus last month, and although there’s no new music coming from them now, they’ll still be in each others lives.

“We’re our biggest cheerleaders,” Normani adds. “Those are my sisters. I couldn’t get rid of them even if I wanted to — trust me!”
