Liam Payne Reveals The Real Reason One Direction's 2015 Belfast Concert Was Cancelled

Liam Payne Reveals The Real Reason One Direction's 2015 Belfast Concert Was Cancelled

There has only been one time when One Direction cancelled a concert, and that was in 2015 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

At the time, it was reported that Liam Payne had been “taken ill” or had food poisoning, but in reality, he was struggling with a deep depression over breaking up with former girlfriend Sophia Smith.

“I let it get to me that day. I wasn’t in a good place,” he revealed in a new interview. “And unfortunately I was going through a rough time and I let it get to me a little bit too much. That was it.”

Liam also addressed the band’s break at the moment, opening up about how they all needed it.

“Even though I know fans are not mad about it, we needed it,” he says. “We needed a little bit of time away from each other. We needed a realisation point to find the love for it again, rather than it just becoming a job. I’m a totally different person now to how I used to be about it.”

Zayn Malik Opens Up About No Longer Staying in Touch With One Direction

Zayn Malik is on the cover of this week’s issue of Billboard, out on newsstands now.

Here’s what the 24-year-old Mind of Mine singer had to say:

On spending time in a farm in rural Pennsylvania working on his second album: “The farm is out of the way and feels grounded. I do a lot of farm work. I take the horses out and feed the cows and that kind of stuff. It’s cool. I’ve always been interested in animals.”

On no longer staying in touch with the other One Direction members: “Our relationships have definitely changed since we were in a band together, but I think that’s just life. Everybody grows up; two of the guys have got kids now. But no, I don’t talk to any of them, really.”

On working with Taylor Swift on “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”: “I felt like she was the right artist for the song. And of course she’s also a massive artist, so that brings its benefits. I get to let her fans know that I’m doing this kind of music, and she lets her fans know she likes my kind of music – there’s no opposition, for real.”

Liam Payne Admits a One Direction Reunion Will Be Hard

Liam Payne Admits a One Direction Reunion Will Be Hard

Liam Payne isn’t completely ruling out a One Direction reunion but he admits it’s going to be difficult.

The 24-year-old singer just opened up about why it would be hard to get the group back together based on the solo careers they all have now.

“I don’t know how we would do it, we are doing different things. Our name has never been more ironic at this current moment,” Liam said to the Daily Star.

He added, “It’s like the Avengers have gone wrong. It could work if we all agree on music.”

Even though the guys all have their own style we really hope they can get back together one day!

Niall Horan Already Has His Bags Packed For One Direction's Reunion

Niall Horan is looking back on his time with One Direction in a brand new feature with The Times.

The “Flicker” singer, who is currently on his Flicker Sessions tour, opened up about always being ready for that reunion with the group and how different it does feel to be up on stage solo.

“If it comes tomorrow, I have my bag packed,” Niall says. “If I have to wait till I’m 60, so be it. I’m serious. We’ll be like the Eagles and never stop.”

He adds that being on tour with the group versus just him is different, especially when he’s playing songs that none of his fans know just yet.

“With 1D, the screaming didn’t stop. We’d all run around and there was always some explosion going off or prop coming on. Now, I just stand there thanking God for my guitar. When I put that down, I haven’t a clue what to do with my hands.”

Niall continues, “I wanted to watch people’s reaction [to the unknown songs]. They don’t know the lyrics, so they can’t sing along. I’m forcing them to listen.”

“That means playing to a relatively quiet crowd, which is spooky. I miss the comfort blanket of being in a band.”

Liam Payne Opens Up About the Height of 1D Fame: 'I Really Hated My Life'

Fame may seem glamorous to many of us on the sidelines, but those who grapple with it on a day-to-day basis often struggle with the constant attention.

Liam Payne gets candid in a new interview about what it was like working in the insanity of One Direction and why it took its toll on him.

Once, when a cameraman accidentally pushed his mother over at a family dinner, Liam broke down in tears.

“I just wanted a burger with my parents,” he told The Daily Star. “I cried my eyes out. I thought, ‘I can’t do this’ and I really hated my life.”

“People were speaking to me about mental health in music the other day,” Liam continued, “and that’s a big issue. Sometimes you just need some sun, or a walk.”

This isn’t the first time Liam has spoken out about his mental health in the band. He also revealed in a recent interview that he struggled with drinking during that time.
