Boy Band's In Real Life Talk One Direction: 'They Were the Biggest'

Boy Band's In Real Life Talk One Direction: 'They Were the Biggest'

In Real Life is opening up about how much One Direction inspires them!

The five winners of ABC’s Boy BandSergio Calderon, Michael Conor, Chance Perez, Andrew Ramos, and Brady Tutton – got candid in a new interview with People.

“I think for this generation, obviously the band that we all look up to is One Direction,” Michael said. “They were the biggest. They were known globally and they sold so many records and I think that their impact on this generation is something that we admire and we want to emulate with our music.”

“Not to mention the fact that they also came from reality TV,” Chance chimed in. “So we have a lot in common.”

“I feel like we are trying to be ourselves,” Brady clarified. “We’re not really trying to be like One Direction per se. But they are a very successful boy band. They make great music and they’re all really just nice guys in general. So I think that just them as people would be something to model after.”

In Real Life‘s first single “Eyes Closed” is out now. See how they recently took over New York City’s Times Square with their music video!

“It’s not the way it used to be, obviously, because we were spending 24 hours a day in the band and now we’re growing as individual men,” the “Dusk ‘Til Dawn” singer explained to Us Weekly of the former band’s relationship with one another, “but we still check in.”

When asked directly about Harry Styles, Zayn got real.

“To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band,” he revealed. “So I didn’t really expect that much of a relationship with him.”

That said, he is open to the idea of the band getting back together in the future. We are absolutely holding him to that.

Niall Horan Doesn't Think He'll Ever Reach One Direction's Height of Fame

Although Niall Horan‘s current Flicker Sessions World Tour is sold out, the “Slow Hands” singer admits that he will probably never reach the same fame that One Direction had.

“I know that anything I do, and all of us are like that, anything I do is not going to be as big as One Direction – ever,” he told the Irish Sun. “No matter what, or how hard I try.”

“But I’m just a music lover, and I just try and give my money’s worth to people and give their money’s worth back to them and just have a laugh,” he continued.

Regarding his post-1D life, Niall said, “I always knew that I would write and that was the whole initial idea to just go into the studio and start writing again and start writing at home just to keep my mind ticking over and for the love of it. And then it came about after a few songs. I played them to my management and they were like, ‘You shouldn’t be giving these to anyone, we should make an album as they are.’ So here we are.”

“We have to just wait until everyone’s ready to go again, we’ll go again,” he added. “It’d be nice to think that we stopped at a high point, it’d be nice to pick up from there.”

1D or no 1D, we’ll still love you Niall!

Niall will drop his debut solo album Flicker in October.

Niall Horan may be a full-fledged solo artist now kicking off his solo tour, but he will never forget where he came from.

The 23-year-old former One Direction singer had a huge night yesterday evening, August 29, kicking off the first night of his Flicker Sessions tour.

Niall revealed the title of his debut album, played some previously unheard gems, and — best of all — went back to his 1D roots.

At his Dublin concert, he sang “Fool’s Gold,” a ballad from 1D‘s 2014 album, Four. Of course, the crowd was obsessed with the throwback.

See that? It’s our hopes and dreams that 1D will someday get back together again, alive and well.

Louis Tomlinson Recalls His First VMAs With One Direction

Louis Tomlinson Recalls His First VMAs With One Direction

Louis Tomlinson and One Direction definitely didn’t feel like they fit in at their first VMAs!

The group first attended the show in the early 2010s, back when they were a brand new band.

“I remember the first time we went to the VMAs…and like Rihanna is sat two rows in front and Drake,” Louis explained to MTV News.

He continued, “We were feeling out of our depth and I just looked over and me and Niall are just, like, scarfing eating this hot dog proper messy, thinking, like, ‘We shouldn’t really be here.’”

But even though they weren’t quite award show pros yet, Louis added, “I have loads of really nice memories from that.”
