Pretty Little Liars' Aria Will Be Pitted Against The Four Other Liars In New Episodes

Pretty Little Liars' Aria Will Be Pitted Against The Four Other Liars In New Episodes

We’ve talked a lot about the dark side of Aria Montgomery coming on Pretty Little Liars, and Lucy Hale is spilling just a little bit more about what we’ll see on the final episodes.

We know that all the liars are constantly playing with fire, however it looks like Aria will be going one step further.

“This was the first time in the course of the show that I went to [showrunner I. Marlene King] and I went to the writers and was like, ‘Please, can Aria just do something really cool and different for the last 10 episodes?’ And they gave me my way, and I was really surprised,” Lucy shared.

“Not only was it stuff I never got to do on the show, but I got to do things I’ve never done in acting, period.”

So what exactly is Aria doing?

“The board game plays a big part in the last nine episodes…and, Aria, it really pits her against the girls. For the first time it’s little Aria against the rest of them, so things get weird.”

Tune into Pretty Little Liars on Tuesdays on Freeform.

Lucy is also pictured running some errands in Los Angeles on Friday (April 28).

Shay Mitchell Reveals The One 'Pretty Little Liars' Question That Won't Be Answered

Shay Mitchell Reveals The One 'Pretty Little Liars' Question That Won't Be Answered

We’ve been pretty much promised that all our questions about Pretty Little Liars will be answered in the last ten episodes — but there’s one that actually won’t.

“I honestly think that this season, everybody’s questions, no matter what they were — except for the moms and how they got out of the basement — that will never be answered, but everything else we will find out in this last, what, eight episodes,” star Shay Mitchell revealed on the We Day California carpet this week.

Wait — so we won’t get to know just how the moms got out of the basement? But we NEED that answer!!!

Shay is also pictured below heading to and leaving Jessica Alba‘s birthday party in Los Angeles on Friday night (April 28).

'Pretty Little Liars' Stars Dish On Connecting With Fans & How 'PLL' Influenced Other Teen Shows

'Pretty Little Liars' Stars Dish On Connecting With Fans & How 'PLL' Influenced Other Teen Shows

Let’s get real here — Pretty Little Liars paved the way for a lot of other teen shows that popped up after the premiere.

Not only that, but the other shows took a cue from the hit Freeform show and tried to emulate it — and all the Liars saw it happen.

“I watched both the pilots of 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale, and I’m not saying that we influenced their shows, but you can definitely see lots of similarities,” Lucy Hale revealed to Vulture.

“All of us, the writers and producers, have paved a way for a lot of new shows. To take on stuff that young-adult shows wouldn’t normally tackle.”

Ashley Benson added that, “We took a lot of risks. The great thing about our show was that because there were five strong, female leads, we’re all dealing with different issues that teens nowadays go through — we each had a specific issue that we dealt with or overcame.”

“For all of us, I feel like our fans really connected. There would be an episode where I would get a message, they would get a message, everybody gets a message [from the fans]. Especially with Emily, I know Shay has gotten an outpouring amount of support from fans just being like, ‘Thank you so much, I’ve been able to come out to my family and friends.’” she adds. “With Hanna, when she was dealing with the eating disorder earlier on in the series, I got a lot of nice messages about that, too.”

The 'Pretty Little Liars' Cast Says This Character Changed The Most Over 7 Seasons

The 'Pretty Little Liars' Cast Says This Character Changed The Most Over 7 Seasons

The Pretty Little Liars cast only have eight more episodes to go until the series is over.

The cast — Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario, and Sasha Pieterse — are opening up in an in-depth interview with Vulture about the show’s highs and lows, and when asked about just which character changed the most, all of them agree: it was Ali.

“Everyone has grown into their own, but Ali has had such a remarkable change,” Lucy shared.

Sasha, who played Ali on the series, agrees.

“They literally changed her personality,” she says. “I think her character broke down her own walls and realized how much she had put away and forgotten about and suppressed. Once she realized how terrible her family was, and why she was the way she was, she worked on that, and it helped having great friends that helped her through that.”

Sasha adds, “She really did change for the better.”

PLL's Sasha Pieterse's Age Played A Part in Her Not Getting The Role of Hanna

PLL's Sasha Pieterse's Age Played A Part in Her Not Getting The Role of Hanna

We all know now that Sasha Pieterse originally auditioned for the role of Hanna Marin on Pretty Little Liars, but we didn’t know the reason why she didn’t get the part — until now, that is.

Showrunner I. Marlene King revealed that Sasha‘s age actually played a factor in the decision.

Sasha is a great story because we had read Sasha for Hanna and we were going to test her at the studio or network … and then we found out she was only 12 years old — not that she couldn’t play a teenager, but I knew what Hanna was going to do and I was like, ‘Do we really want a 12-year-old doing those things?’” she says.

Marlene adds, “But also, they can only work a certain amount of hours under the age of 16. So that’s when we just said she’s Alison.”

“She read with a few of the girls as Alison, she was several years younger than all of them, but she scared the hell out of everyone in a good way.”

Some actors don’t even have to audition for roles on television shows or even movies, and Lucy Hale is one of them.

The actress, who plays Aria Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars, didn’t actually have to audition at all.

“She was coming off of Privileged and everybody wanted to do a TV show with her,” showrunner I. Marlene King shared with Variety. “I grabbed a coffee with her … and she had read the script and she loved it, and she wanted to play Hanna and I didn’t think she was a Hanna; I thought she was an Aria.”

She adds, “I said, ‘Go home and read it again.’ She read it again and she chem[istry] read for both roles with a couple of guys, and once she started doing her scenes, she’s like, ‘You’re right. I’m Aria.’”

And that’s how we got our Aria.

Is a 'Pretty Little Liars' Movie in the Works?

Is a 'Pretty Little Liars' Movie in the Works?

Never say never when it comes to a Pretty Little Liars film!

In fact, showrunner Marlene King said she wants to return to that world “at some point in time,” according to THR.

“Rosewood goes on, there’s always more to say,” Sasha Pieterse teased.

Shay Mitchell added, “Sex and the City had two movies, so you never say never, right? It would absolutely be nice to see the PLLs again in five years, but I’ll be catching up with them sooner than that. ”

“We joke around about it being like SATC, ‘Let’s just put the PLLs in Dubai and see what happens!’ But, how would you bring them back together?” Troian Bellisario said. “Once this mystery is done, it all depends on what the story would be. Would it just be about what they’re doing in life and if that were the case, some time would have to pass and it would be very different.”
