Who else is still reeling from the summer finale of Pretty Little Liars?
After the premiere, showrunner I. Marlene King spoke to reporters about what’s ahead on the series concerning all the Liars, Toby, Ezria and more. Check it:
On Toby and Yvonne: “There was nothing nefarious going on there. The car crash was just saying that no one ever really leaves Rosewood, especially from this group. It’s more of a metaphor than anything else. I don’t want to talk about where it goes, but people know how much I love the character of Toby, so you can read into that. He’s one of my favorites on this show.”
On Mary Drake and Spencer: “We will find out who Charlotte’s father is, and we will find out how Spencer came to be with her entire family dynamic. This storyline also originated from the books. In Sara Shepard’s original books, Spencer is adopted. Early on, that gave us the idea for this storyline, so the final season will circle back to a lot of Sara’s original concepts from the books.”
On Wren’s return: “We’ll see him in more than one episode, which is fantastic. It’s so much fun to see Wren, even just to see him on set. It’s fun! When we were talking to Julian [Morris], he said that he’d never had a scene with Ezra, and he and Ian (Harding) are friends in real life. So he said, ‘Please, can I have a scene with Ezra?,’ so that was the originator of the first scene we’ll see Wren in when he comes back.”
On Ali’s pregnancy: “Nothing is average in Pretty Little Liars, so you can take that to fuel your theory. Everything is a little spectacular.”
On a potential film: “We’re very open to keeping these characters alive. I hope that down the line we find a way to bring all the girls back together again. It’s such a fun world to play in that we are always keeping those options open. I will say that the final episode is like a two-hour movie. It is a two-hour movie. I am co-writing it with Michael Smith, who I wrote [this] finale with and I’ll be directing it.”
Pretty Little Liars returns in April 2017.
