Qandeel Baloch, a social star in Pakistan, has been found strangled in her home, in a suspected honor killing.
BBC reports that Qandeel, 26, had been “found on Saturday (July 16) dead after an argument with her brother and her parents have been taken into custody.”
Qandeel recently had all eyes on her, after posting several controversial pictures of herself on social media, including one alongside a Muslim cleric.
Reuters added that “her father Azeem informed the police that his son Waseem has strangled Qandeel. Apparently, it is an honour killing but further investigations will reveal the real motives behind this murder and Police were now looking for Waseem, who has disappeared.”
Honor killings happen more than often — most to women — and are usually carried out by members of the victim’s family meting out punishment for bringing “shame” on the community.
